wait so you want a corded mouse or not? I just bought a MX1000 laser cordless mouse by logitech. It kicks ass. If you do get cordless make sure to get one with a rechargable lithion battery. Having to buy AA or AAA batteries or whatever over and over would suck....
You-- yes, you-- you're a cunt.

I have one that takes double AA's. I just bought 4 rechargable batteries and a battery charger, and these same 4 batteries have lasted this mouse over a year already with no signs of deterioration yet.

Re: the original post... There are a couple obvious things like make sure it's an optical mouse and has a scroll wheel, but beyond that the mouse you choose is mostly a matter of preference. Do you want one that's sleek and simple? Stylish and fancy-looking? A gaming and/or power-user mouse with lots of buttons and features? Does one fit your hand better than the other? Etc... The only real advice I can offer is the brand. I personally like Logitech mice the most and have had multiple problems with Microsoft mice (but I've only owned a few mice in my lifetime, so small sample size).

If you just need something simple and cheap, here's a link to a mouse that's on sale, that can get for $2.50 ($5 after shipping). It's optical, has a cord, a scroll wheel, and two buttons. Perfectly fine for general computer use, and a good price:

Though the reviews say the scroll wheel "feels cheap", so that's something to consider I guess.

And here's one that's slightly more expensive, but likely to be constructed with better materials and a better design (which will make it last longer from normal wear-and-tear and from 2-year-olds bashing it against things):

I am posting again, not because I have anything to add, but just because I don't think I've posted four times in a row in any thread before, so I want to set a new personal record.

I have the logitech MX518 and have been very happy with it.

To look one up, I recommend www.google.com.

edit: hahaha wow, google.com. is a real site. It's just an image of google's homepage and nothing else. Nice. Lukie 999,999,999,999,999,999, world 0.

Just go to best buy see which one feels the best in your hand. You dont need a mx518 for poker saves a few bucks and get a mx500.

From a personal standpoint, it is almost essential that I have a good mouse. When 9-tabling 6max my mouse is constantly flying around the screen. I've become quite efficient at clicking distant buttons extremely quick with a very low error rate.
