Living the Dream
I was informed by my boss that I should consider any long-term plans I have for the position as worth pursuit. That is, there have been many ideas I've had about this position and I had to categorize them as short-term or long-term based on what I thought I could accomplish this semester. I was just told to pursue my long-term goals as well.
She told me that getting through HR is a bit of a process, but that it has been started. They are preparing to offer me a contract.
YIPPEEEEE!! WOOHOOOOOO!! HOORAY!

I have been working part time (lol 37.5 hr weeks) as the physics demonstration guy at Washington University in St Louis.
During nearly all of the physics lectures, there is a demonstration performed to show the students what's going on. I am the guy who's responsible for creating and setting up demonstrations each day. There is a full schedule of experiments which are already used, so it's not like I had to come up with a ton of demos right off the bat. It is part of my job to keep and maintain the equipment needed for the demos. As such, my office is an enormous room with large cabinets along the walls. The cabinets are full of awesome scientific equipment. I have the liberty to order any additional equipment I may need (unsure of my actual budget, though).
I found a 4-year-old, never-been-used Squire Stratocaster (electric guitar) in my office, as well as a tuner, whammy bar, soft case and practice amp. I also have a refrigerator, microwave, and sink in my office.
I have no one micromanaging any portion of my job. I have my own helium cylinder and access to liquid Nitrogen at $0.17 per liter.
