If you eat only whole foods like fruits and veggies and plenty of animal based proteins, you won't get enough calories to gain fat. In fact it's quiet easy to lose weight if you make sure most of your fat intake is good fats. Working out hard with resistance exercise and a bit of cardio will provide the body with more than enough calorie burn while getting these nutrients and not enough calories. It's actually a lot easier than it's made out to be because they need to sell programs and books. Yes there is more to it than that, but if that is all you do, you would be very surprised at the results.
