Think of every food as one of three things, protein, sugar and fat. Nuts are counted as good fats, eat too much and get fat but good food in control. Veggies are nothing, real veggies, not potatoes. They are like water, required.
curious about the porridge for breakfast thing. Also been recently reading about alternating meat/nuts for breakfast.
i often eat porridge (olive oil fried sunflower seeds, cashew nuts, + fresh diced apple, then add water and wholemeal oats and boil, served with more fresh fruit + dash of honey or brown sugar + some kefir or yoghurt). It seems really good in terms of providing day long energy. Thoughts? then again, I do a lot of exercise, so maybe it's just like poker and it depends. I often also do fresh fish/eggs/veg for breakfast cos tasty. Hmm.

I enjoy bread and butter and mayo and potatoes and things like that, and have lots of these things every week.

    Style, as I'm learning, is very important. The average guy, can get a lot more points buying better fitting clothes than dropping a few % of body fat. That being said, there are only 3 types of "looks" for men;
    1) That repulses women and only godly amount of personality would draw them to him
    2) Average, you are 100% reliant on personality, but if you happen to have one "it" feature for the women in question you can do well
    3) the omg let me touch you body (different for different women) in that case you just have to stand there look pretty and be nice.
For anyone who ketos, highly recommend adding this to their coffee. Makes getting the right amount of fat easy.

I always advice people to drop sugar and start with heavy cream to get used to not having sugar in brewed coffee. It's a lot easier to do this way, and cutting cream once you have no sugar is a lot easier. It also eliminates a lot of the cravings associated with coffee when you drink it sweet.

Interesting. I'm a big bacon and eggs fan for breakfast. No, its not perfect, but its got protein, reasonable calories, easy to cook and tastes delicious. I tend to think a lot of people focus on the minutia rather than just fixing the basics. I need improvement, but I know the issues. Serving sizes, and eating while drinking account for my biggest issues. If I control those the weight drops without much issue. Most of the crap has long been removed from my diet (other than if I've had a drink, then I tend to eat it).

God damn those are good ice cream bars.

I would love to have been in the room when this conversation took place:
    A) Let's call these things magnums, 'cause they're epic!
    B) Isn't that the name of those condoms? The big ones?
    A) I'm OK with that.

I actually had to look up the term, but it's just a term for food combining. I'm very pro adjustments to food intakes for what works for you. I don't think things are cut and dried for most people so if you try stuff give it time to work, and don't be afraid to trust your body and how it feels. I think it's best to spend time finding and eliminating the foods that don't work for you, whether it's as simple as a carb rich or fat rich diet, certain proteins or grains. I don't do well on starches, like most people that gain fat and muscle easily. I need to use carbs to get stronger and more anabolic (muscle) but I can't get lean at all when I eat starches for many reasons.

As long as you know your goals and how things are supposed to effect your body comp and energy then you should be able to find that right mix.

I really want an Ice Cream Cake for my birthday, because I've never had one (still not 100% sure what it is) and I imagine the only time I will ever get one is if I specifically ask for one for my birthday. The problem is in the UK they don't seem to exist.

Does anyone know where you can get them from in the UK?

jyms what area are you in?
    Where do you train at?
When did you start training... & where?

I'm from Ontario & used to be night manager at Gold's Gym (Mississauga). Also worked downtown Gold's (TO) & Scarborough... all just after they'd first opened. ('SuperFitness' before that). I thought I'd seen that you are from Canada & was thinking if you were from out East (I'm in BC for years now), maybe these would ring a bell.

I'm in TO. I actually started out in Superfitness as desk help back in the mid 80's. Right now I live in the Queen West area but come from the beaches. There is about a 50% chance I could end up going out to BC for a few years, most likely the island.

I started working at a gym called Alfie's on the Danforth. It was a old school gym, wood floors and steel weights. It was also a boxing gym and had training equipment but no ring. I just stopped working at Goodlife back at Christmas, I absolutely hated it. I'm not cut out to stand around the gym counting peoples reps.

my go to breakfast lately has been 3 eggs scrambled w/ 1 avocado, 3-5 slices of bacon, handful of pistaschios, then a shake with peanut butter, banana, chia/hemp/flax seed, almond milk, scoop of protein powder, honey, and cinnamon. keeps me full for a solid 4-5 hours and is damn good.

also been doing nearly all of my weight training past few weeks with kettlebells, pretty fun change up and the extreme kettlebells dvd kicks my ass, still can't make it all the way through.
  26. #176
@GMML. You have been eating that way for a while now, how has it changed things for you? Strength going up? Weight? Energy?

    Cool.
    I worked at SuperFitness (@ 5 & 10 in Mississauga) in '82.
Also used to run a personal fitness training business while living in Vancouver (mid 90's) & worked for awhile at 'FitnessQuest Gym' (near Broadway & Cambie). Had Reese Witherspoon as a client (big deal huh, LoL... she hated working out & was a no-show fairly often).

I have a question, kind of.

This time last year I was probably 135-140, and now I currently weigh 100-101 lbs max. Most the weight was lost was face/stomach/legs/arms, and my stomach is all meh looking imo. How can I tone that?

Also - how the fuck could I have lost all that weight, without really doing anything? Honestly the only difference was me not taking any anti-craycray medication. Besides that all I've really done at all was not eat as much sugar. I mean - I still eat potatoes like crazy, which I know breaks down to sugar in the body.

And something else - since I've lost weight, my heart has been doing it's moody shit again, so much so I had to wear a heart monitor again, and in 3 recorded things I had 140-145 events, and my heart rate got up to 135. It wasn't doing this when I was bigger. I'm diagnosed with PVC, Tachycardia, and MVP. He wanted to put me on beta-blockers, which he admitted would make me feel sluggish, plus I'd taken those before and wasn't too fond of em, and I'm trying to stay away from pills and shit unless I absolutely have to take them.

tl;dr - how do i fix flabby tummy, how the fuck did i lose 40 lbs, why the fuck is my heart moody when i'm skinny but not fat?!?!?!?!
I will destroy you with sunshine and kittens.
  29. #179
Many "craycray" medications actually cause weight gain. The better you can control taking those the better you can control weight. It's why when you go to see a trainer or fitness pro they ask you about previous injuries, medications and depression.

As for midsection and flab, you need to work out with weights, tone the muscles and not the skin. Eating healthy and taking proper supplements will make the skin more elastic and tighten, Also, kin takes time to unstretch, so you also need to give it time. Things that make it last longer is age, nutrition, health and even time you were overweight.

Your heart is another issue. It can be caused buy many things. Weight loss and heart palpitations or irregular beat could be an overactive thyroid. It could also be other stresses. You said your feeling your emotions more, your new "mental health" situation could be causing new stresses the body hasn't dealt with. First thought though, thyroid. Hve it checked.

    Emotions.

You'd think it'd be emotions - but, this heart thing was also happening when I was skinny before. Which well, was like 4 years ago. It hardly acted up when I was bigger, and well, I was fucked emotionally during that time. Hell - honestly even though I'm dealing with more actual emotions, I feel like I'm handling them a lot better than several people would, then again, I have no fucking idea.

I drink tons of water, eat more veggies, and eat less things with sugar, for the obvious reasons. Oh - and I have braces.
I will destroy you with sunshine and kittens.

I have had this too when I was younger, why is my heart beating so fast? It makes no sense?! As I came to realize later it was all normal. I'm now helping a friend with her anxiety attacks for a few weeks now (over skype when I have some free time). She had these moments where she almost fainted. Of course her initial explanation was "but it's not panic because X, Y and Z". It is really hard for people to learn this but in her case she's finally making some headway in understanding all these emotions she is feeling and how they are linked to physical expressions in her body. (it's a bit awkward to talk to her about this stuff because she's an ex and we were never this open about anything, but I'm just too interested if I can help someone with this knowledge i think I have)

Been there done that but yeah my current girl seems to have stolen my heart, my mind isn't going those places anymore for other girls atm. I know i know i'm weird :P. And it doesn't help that she already suspects me being a 'casanova and bad boy'. She literally told me a few times already. I am totally not a player but now I have to prove to her I'm not anyway. Lol?

(second time we met I pulled out my phone to input something she wanted me to (some movie she wanted me to watch to talk about later) but stupid samsung was still stuck at the phone number of a girl which she must have seen on my fb later is very pretty, it was a total coincidence but i was like fuck and quickly hit back back, but she already saw it. "Ex-gf?" Me: "Eh no.. we kissed once I mean if you call that a gf.." then she kissed me and said "now *I* am your gf!" - such a cool girl really, but she has been dropping the other girl's name a few times, shows it's really stuck in her head..)

The bad boy thing was more in the beginning because she said I reminded her of a guy she knows that got a friend of her pregnant then hopped on from other girl to other girl (she even showed me a picture of this guy lateron, dafuq?). Lateron (this may sound braggy but whatever) she said I was the smartest person she ever met. Apparently I default speak very fast, have always thought provoking things to say (she'll often tell me to speak slower "you are doing it again!" - before she also said "I can understand everything you are saying but it takes a little while for me to process it you know, but you just keep going", because I am so nice (all her friends like me etc) and because when I'm talking it's apparently always interesting "I just like to hear you talk it's so fun". I've actually been hearing that last bit more often, maybe it IS player time lol.

This has created this kind of dynamic where she's always trying to show me how smart she is, she'll tell me about some clever thing she did and I'll be like "oh wow great honey!" and she'll be all proud. She's actually a really clever girl btw, she's just doing some modeling work now to pay for university, she's starting media studies in october.

Yes as you can see she really has my head spinning. Also I'm mister cool among my friends atm because I scored a model. Life is good *knocks on wood*

In other news, I just put extra cheese on my oven cook pizza, thought that was somehow relevant to the thread.
