Introduction

IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat. It's a simple chat interface we use to talk to each other during the day, and it usually has a minimum of 15 players at all times of the day, and typically peaks around 30 players in the evenings/night Eastern time.

IRC is perfect for people who like talking about poker or talking with poker players, but don't feel like they're reaching their full potential with the forum/bulletin board interface for communication.

Here are euphoricism's instructions for using the program mIRC to connect:

go to mIRC: Internet Relay Chat client and download/install mIRC. Run it.

A box will pop up. Create a nickname for youself, and join server irc.thundercity.net, it might be on the server list, it might not. If not, just add it yourself. If it asks for a port put 6660

When youre connected, then join the channel flopturnriver by typing /join #flopturnriver and/or the ftr poker channel by typing /join #ftrbc

Alternatively you can go to http://www.thundercity.net/chat/ and after you log in type /join #flopturnriver and/or /join #ftrbc instead of needing to download mIRC

Two Channels

Currently we have two channels: #flopturnriver is for the general chat and banter, and #ftrbc is for all poker chat.

It looks like mIRC has started expiring when it wasn't before, and the thundercity.net website isn't working lately, so here are instructions for using IceChat:

Go download IceChat: IceChat IRC Client :: IRC Client Extra-Ordinaire :: The Chat Cool People Use

When it comes up when you run it, on the left click the Add New button and put in irc.thundercity.net, then choose irc.thundercity.net from the list and click connect. After it connects, type /join #flopturnriver in the box and hit enter, and you're there.

Plus IRC clients have ridiculously more functionality. And it doesn't disconnect you or exit out if you hit the wrong buttons (maybe I am just an idiot).

I'm all for IRC over the web chat, it is like, 1000 times better.

If none of the higher-ups here want to do it, I can work on it or something. I dunno.

I'm not a fan of the web chat though, even if I am in there all the time.

Another option is Pidgin. Then you can manage AIM/MSN/Yahoo/IRC from the same app. Also it auto adds color to the names so you can somewhat differentiate in IRC

Jack, no its not down. Try a different port, like 6660. I am currently connected on port 6664.

Thundercity doesnt work on some ports. I have no idea why, but I do know 6661 doesnt work, but 6662 does for example.

After connecting to the server, in the server window type:
/msg NickServ REGISTER <username> <password> <email address>

You'll get an email from them. Copy the command with "COOKIE" in it (the entire line), paste it in the server window of your irc client. Your account is now verified and you are logged in.

In the future when you logon, before you can join the channel you have to login (take out the space between "NickServ" and the @):
/msg NickServ @Services.ThunderCity.Net AUTH <username> <password>

Ok seriously, what is the fucken problem Rilla. IRC was fine for a month until you joined. Everytime my internet has a glitch I have to re- authenticate? WTF!!! Is there a good enough reason for this or are you just being a bitch again? I used to be able to keep logged in and catch up on conversations without making people repeat themselves. Now I come on the computer an I am logged out.
