this is why hockey is such a great sport. I dont really like watching it on tv, but I would go to my highschool games because three of my freinds played. This one goon that we were cool with played simply because he enjoyed hurting other people. He could barely skate, he had no puck skills, but he wound BANG the unfortunate kids on the other team. Parents from the other team would be calling for the ref to do osmething and he would grab his nuts and flick them off with the other hand, yell back calling their children pussies, ect ect.

Anyone see Zednik get his throat slit accidentally by his teammates skate, that was one of the most awful things I have ever seen. But just confirms hockey players are badass, he skated to his bunch with his aorta cut.

I played hockey for about 8 years, my coaches always wanted me to be more aggressive since I am a big guy, one game I was feeling it and just demolished 2 or 3 guys, so I thought I was invincible, this guy was skating full speed towards me with the puck and I just dug it and lowered my shoulder and he hit me at full speed, I ended up landing on my hand and no idea were I was lol.

I'm pretty sure it's one of those deals where the kid was born in SA but moved to Canada / Northern US at an early age and got into hockey... I don't know which player it is specifically though

For example, the '1' next to 'Brazil' refers to Robyn Regehr, whose parents were Canadian and happened to live in Brazil for a short period of time before moving back to Canada.

Same deal with the South Korean player - pretty sure this refers to Richard Park; born in South Korea but grew up in Canada.

These other countries just don't have the hockey infrastructure required to produce NHL-caliber players. Hockey's just not a cheap sport to play; the equipment is expensive, especially for children who grow out of their gear each and every season as they get older. Then consider the costs to the community; arenas aren't cheap and cost shitloads to maintain. Outdoor rinks work for only a few months during the winter. And this is all saying nothing of the human capital needed to actually instruct and bring these players along in such a way that gives them the greatest chance to become successful professional athletes...
