GTA IV Thread

So I was on the fence about buying GTA (didn't own a PS2 so never really got into the series) but the IGN review just came out and it got a 10/10. It's only the 3rd game to ever receive a 10 from IGN, the other two being Zelda: OOT and Soul Caliber. I was going to buy Mario Kart this weekend but now I'll be picking up GTA instead.

tektag is the shit, but unless you are judging games only in comparison to other games in their genre, I really dont see how a fighting game can have a 10/10.

Yeah it's coming out for both PS3 and 360 on Tuesday. I have both systems and I'm getting it for 360 since the 360 version is getting still unknown "exclusive downloadable content". Also I have more friends w/ 360s so I can do the multiplayer with them. If all my friends had a PS3 I would get the PS3 version instead. Really the only difference is the downloadable content and since no one knows what that is yet it could suck or be awesome.

I know therse multiplayer but I dont remember reading much about it at all. I was thinking If I had the money Id probably get a ps3+tv+gta4 since the ps3 is a bluray player. But now that I think about it more people I know have 360's and therefore it would be more fun to play online with them. However Im guessing the online component is not that big of a deal since the single player is the big draw to the series.

IGN gave it 10/10, Official Xbox Mag 9.5 and Xbox world 360 gave it 98%. Game of the year? Could even be the best game ever.

Love the fact that the car physics are far more realistic so you have to work a lot harder to control them at high speeds.

I dont like the multiplayer at all so far. The game just isnt made for it. It ends up being "assault rifles at 20 paces" kinda shit. Most of the time you just stand there and unload your rifle and hope you hit him more than he hits you. Team deathmatch is a little better because if you can coordinate attacks with your team you get an edge, but the aiming is still super tedious and innacurate and the guns dont do anywhere near enough damage. And people get run over by cars, then stand up and run away.

I hope they patch the shit out of it.

Single player is fucking sick awesome, though in every series they seem to make the vehicles harder and harder to control. Their suspensions are like slinkies. I dont remember vice city or san andreas being like that.

Well, you need to use the breaks in this one. The old games where full speed - handbrake turn - full speed. It still works to some extent with some cars, but others don't like the handbrake it at all.

I've only played the single player part for a few hours, but so far, I really like it.

I've still barely cracked into it but I like the vehicle physics. They feel a lot weightier and more realistic, and I get the impression that if you really get good with coordinating the two brakes and the accelerator, you can still drive with great precision, even at speed. We'll see how that plays out but I was already doing some slick things last night successfully. One thing is to ease off the gas before you turn, and don't crush the hand brake all the way through - just use it for a second and let go.

not sure. compared to past gta's, the graphics are better, the physics are better, and the fight/aim systems are better. if he liked previous gta games then i dunno what's not to be impressed about. just exploring the city is impressive. there are so many things happening among the people on any given city block, and the level of detail is amazing. it's really really impressive.
