I do see some sort of endgame. There's a reason all sorts of magic that are thought to be gone have returned. Plus I'm not even sure if any fantasy material hasn't had endgames yet. The Wire was pretty unique and unusual in its storytelling (for our culture)

Edit: Alright so I'll come clean, my friends have always told me that I vastly overrate women on a regular basis. But, then again, I never think I'm wrong. I also tend to underrate incredibly beautiful women. Go figure.
I think I have a similar tendency to overrate "average" women, and underrate super hot ones. I'm fine with this though, as I get to enjoy more of what I consider top tier than the average person, because the average person thinks my top tier is simply mid-grades.

I would much prefer a Wire-esque snap shot of the world instead of a beginning-middle-end LoTR lameness. I have a strong feeling that we are going to land somewhere in the middle, a bit more towards Wire-esque than is standard. I'd be happy with this.

Yeah it's unusual, that is why I wasn't expecting it in GoT also, but season 1 was pretty much like that, and season 2 is looking like it also. Instead of working plot elements towards a big finale, it's more of a moving chess pieces around the board. Makes it all a lot less predictable, if this is indeed the way it is going to stay.
