    Default Fogo de Chao

Has anyone here ever been to one of these restaurants? The wife was talking about this place a few weeks ago and it looks pretty good. Our three year anniversary is on Wednesday, so I figured why not. Crazy salad bar, and then you get a card with two different sides to it (green/red I think?). Green means bring the meat (twelve different kinds, shaved in front of you), red means don't come put meat in my face because I'm about to puke (or you're waiting for round two or three, or you're still on round one, whatever).

    Looks good, any thoughts?

ha, it's where she wants to go. rethinking this now, beyond-full-stomach sex does not sound appealing really, but maybe we'll go to a movie so we can get over that feeling.

I used to think this place was amazing... before I knew what amazing food was. That being said, my family still likes this place and Ill happily tag along since I wont be paying . Its pretty much a steak house in the sense that youre getting uninspired meat preparations, some potatoes and some salad. However I would much rather go to this style of a steakhouse since it has a pretty nice salad bar as opposed to a wedge or house salad. Also you get to sample lots of different stuff and the overall dining experience is fairly cool. For example the waitstaff works very well as a team and you are NEVER left wondering where your server is. You water is always full, anything that needs to be cleared (used plates/utensils/empty drinks) are instantly taken care of. Also the price is fairly reasonable, I think $27 for lunch and ~$50 for dinner. Compare that to a top end steak house and youre definitely paying at least that much.

cliffnotes: great service, food isnt ground breaking (rolls are amazing though) however it is good, but like someone else said this isnt exactly a romantic place for an anniversary.

We have a few of these in Miami, some quick tips:

    - You will hit the salad bar once if you are lucky, focus on the steak.
    - Get at least one bottle of red wine to cut the massive amounts of steak you will eat.
    - They bring the tenderloin only once when you first turn over your green card. Load up on it when it is there.

Yup, I'll have to pace myself with the salad bar. I plan on working out like a mad man before I go in, and my first inclination will be to eat everything in sight. I must not do that to get the full experience and to get my money's worth meat-wise for once (damn you bigred).

Boost makes the place sound pretty good.

Great service is the most important thing pretty much. Food is obv vvv important, but really, nobody returns to a place with terrible service no matter how good the food

Edit: food prep and timing is also an aspect of service that people tend to not notice

Service -- I've read that their staff works like worker-bees, a plate is empty they take it, you need a refill, they do it, etc. Some of the reviews were saying how the service was borderline ridiculous in how AWESOME it was. Can't beat that.

Food prep, they make it and then come around to tables...Their whole website talks about marbling so that has to be good. It sounds like I will be able to taste the MEAT instead of the seasoning. That can be good or bad, I guess, but I'm thinking in a restaurant like this it'll be REALLY good.

The wife wants to go to this place because it will mimic the restaurant we went to on our honeymoon where they brought meats out like this, etc....I probably should have added that. Sucks though that nobody's been there, even though there are 15+ locations around the country.

Just went to a similar place called Rioz, I believe there are a bunch of them.. Really good. Obv go light on salad bar. I drank alot of red wine and they had like 15 different meats. I was waddling out of there. Its worth it if you cant just accept you will be a glutton for the night and wont shit normal for a few days.

Not the same place so whatever but same style, but we had great service. Guy came around to ask what meats we wanted sent over and they came right over.

    Happy Anniversary!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    you lucky son of bitch

red wine is great with red meat as mentioned by ltrain and dad, beer is usually good to but will fill your stomach
Manhattans are great with red meat if you like that sort of thing

suggest a red wine (not too expensive, I don't roll like that)

I usually, umm, ok, ALWAYS drink beer.....but I don't want to miss out on any eating here so suggest a red wine, please, or my ass is drinking water.

Expensive wine is retarded. Science has shown that in single blind studies, wine tasting 'professionals' don't prefer the super expensive stuff over the house stuff. It's all just a bunch of shadows and mirrors.

I'm sure the house Merlot or Cabernet or something like that would be fine. I like wine alot but I don't know a ton about it. Plus it'd be hard to recommend specific wines without seeing their wine list. I usually go for a bottle that's on the cheaper ($25-30) side at restaurants and get a Shiraz, Merlot or Malbec. Its rare that I dislike them.

    good stuff^^^
i looked at their website and they offer malbecs from south america so iwould be getting a malbec. cheap(relative) and excellent for the price. a bottle of wine in restaurants is generally double in price than liquor stores, ive had bottles of malbec as cheap as $5.99(liquor store) and still was very happy. don't get excited about the price of wine being expensive, beer prices are usually double also if not more in restaurants.

the website does not give any specifics of wines available. i guarantee they offer quite a few wines by the glass. this would be a good way to go to try new things, you get one red and your wife gets a different red and you can compare.

I love this place. One in Indianapolis I have been to twice. Lunch is only 26 bucks compared to the 46 it is for dinner. I think lunch is a damn good deal if you are just going with friends or something and not a special occasion. What you get is identical.

The service is probably the best I have had my entire life, or at least very close to it. They have always treated my girlfriend and I like royalty.

ya, Im sure there are amazing places in KC, and I would highly reccomend that anyone looking for a nice night out finds a non-chain restaraunt with a prefixe menu. You can often find 3 course menus for under 30$ in chicago.

What? Why? The salad bar is pretty nice with some tasty stuff, the meat is seasoned with salt and pepper and cooked on a rotisserie. While the meat is pretty good, I dont get why you think it deserves more attention than a very nice salad bar.

What? No. They bring the tenderloin as many times as you want them to. Just ask for anything you want. If you want lamb chops, and you havent seen any around, then just ask. I mean, wait to see if it comes around, as thats the style of dining they are selling you. However if it doesnt come or seem to be coming go ahead and ask. They will be more than happy to bring some by.

Wait, what? Ive been there and wrote a review of the place just for you. Psh.. I see how it is, youre to good for me now! *sobs*
You-- yes, you-- you're a cunt.

p.s. on the tenderloin. I honestly dont care that much for their tenderloin. Not that its bad meat, or cooked in a poor manner. However it is on a spit long ways and they carve it table side, meaning they cut with the grain. This makes a perfectly tender piece of meat a bit chewy.
