    Default Fargo, ND

Although everyone I know has an intuitive sense that the prospect of moving to Fargo, ND has to rank among the world's greatest beats... I'd like to hear why from the lovely people of the FTR commune.

"cuz it's Fargo" is an understandable reason... links to any motion pictures that may use the town's namesake as it's title are also expected... but other thoughts?

Does anyone here have the misfortune of living close to there?

Forbes magazine ranked Fargo fourth on a list of the “Best Small Metro Areas for Business and Careers.” It’s the fifth consecutive year that Fargo was listed among the top five.

Fargo ranked as one of the 10 most affordable places to live and work in an online article by MSN Real Estate.

Known as the “Gateway to the West,” Fargo–Moorhead was at the top of the list of U.S. Cities ranked on 200 environmental, health and quality of life indicators compiled in the 2007 Urban Environment Report released by the Earth Day Network.

The April 2007 issue of Urban Land magazine featured Fargo in a list of 10 “Downtown Turnarounds” for its millions of dollars of investment in downtown Fargo.

Fargo–Moorhead was ranked among Money magazine’s 100 “Best Paces to Live” in 2006, due in part to its low–stress environment, quality schools, low crime and open space

But its like -60 11 months out of the year.

~ So that was Mrs. Lundegaard on the floor in there. And I guess that was your accomplice in the wood chipper. And those three people in Brainerd. And for what? For a little bit of money. There's more to life than a little money, you know. Don't you know that? And here ya are, and it's a beautiful day. Well, I just don't understand it.~
You are an FTR station-pwn'ing badass motherf**ker. You have no pansyass, girly-girl, crybaby fears. Pwn the f**king stations like you know you ought to. And win some damn money, dammit.

I get calls from Fargo ND all the time at work. They were pretty happy that about a foot of snow melted off... leaving them at around 3 feet left to go before they can see the ice from the first snowfall they had.

If you're used to the midwest and the snowfall they have, you'll be fine.

    If not, good luck.

If you've never seen snow before, get yourself a 4wd vehicle, drive SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWLY and begin attending church.

my Father inlaw is from Minot, ND. He is always talking about how long the winters were, how Flat and Desolate the place is. And they measure their farm land in Sections which I think = 1000 acres.

    section = 1 mile X 1 mile = 640 acres

i probably couldn't do 4life there, but i don't think it is as bad as people are telling you

i have the move thing coming up again in july of 2010

    any other options?

So this is job at the university there... hence the minimal one-year.. and the 6 years would be the length of time it takes to get tenure, which is huge. Since once you get tenure at a university you are "senior" faculty and any other job you would get you'd be giving tenure straight away with no hoop jumping and such.

Due to the super awesome economy many universities are on a hire freeze... over half the places that I applied canceled their searches. It's unclear if that kind of activity is going to continue (almost for sure for the next few years at least) or even get worse (very likely).

The other potential option (although i'm not as far in the process with them) is with a school in Miami. Which is a beat in so many of the exact opposite ways for a family with two little kids... though I expect all with all the young ballas on here it'd be an ldorrrrrrrr BIENVENIDOS A MIAMI...
