Default Buy Gaming computer now, or wait?

I've recently been considering buying a gaming rig as I want to be able to play the latest and greatest PC titles. I haven't kept up with the high-end hardware industry at all in the last few years, so I was wondering what some people here might recommend. There is a local store that caters to this market, and I trust them, but they of course want to sell me something today, not three months from now, so their opinion is a little bias.

Should I buy something now, or wait? Is there something big on the verge of being released other than Vista (which I don't care about at this point)?

Yeah, i really woldnt care about Vista at this point.. I'd be focused on researching what you'd like your computer to have. You need to be looking for a dual core processor - for sure - a video card that is SLI compatible (fancy for you can run two of them at once a coupleyears down the road when one just wont cut it.) Go for the 2GB of GOOD ram, don't skimp, buy the same brands. Sound card isnt massivley important, im runnin an onboard and its good for what i can use it for. Live with a bunch of people so even if i wanted to i cant blast my music. When it comes to drives id be looking for a dual-layer dvd burner as thats the way things are headed right now, youll spend more now but youll save by not having to replace it down the road. Actually, ask the guy there, im sure he knows more than I do. Get a floppy drive installed (yes, the little hard disks) I had a hard drive that needed drivers from a floppy (wtf right) and i used a scrap one.. they cost like $5... you never know.

Like i said, do your research, find prices, compare, communicate. this is a fairly big purchase considering it sounds like you want to buy something nice.

Oh yeah, get one of those nerdy cases with lights, they all have built in power supplies. Go for 400W+. If you buy a shitty little box because it costs $50 less and you dont care how it looks, youll spend that saving on a standalone power supply. plus it looks like shit. peace.
