    Default Boulder, CO?

So my girlfriend and I have started talking about how NYC is nice but it's about time to move on to something new. We've briefly talked about cities we'd like to move to which include Austin, San Francisco, San Diego, Boston, or DC. She doesn't want to move to san fran but I love it so I keep bringing it up.

I've started to research top cities lists including best place to live, cheapest, happiest, healthiest, etc. I can't help but notice Boulder, CO is constantly #1 and always top 5. Anyone lived there? Is there a decent airport (required for my job)?

Any other suggestions? She wants a place that is relatively sunny because we're starting to think she's affected by long winters. That's why San Diego and Austin are up there. We also love outdoors stuff, snowboarding, beach, etc.

Unfortunateley I can't really help with the city search, but there's a good chance your GF is vitamin D deficient. 2000IU vitamin D/day should help solve that. Fake tanning 1-2x/week probably wouldn't hurt either.

Austin is a fun place to party but I wouldn't really want to live there.

What are your reasons for leaving NY? Surely leaving possibly the most famous metropolis in the world for what in English terms is a medium town is a recipe for boredom? If you have any niche cultural tastes you need somewhere with at least 250k population IMO.

I'm in Littleton atleast once a year (roughly 1/2hr from Boulder)

I don't know much about living conditions there, but Boulder has tons of incredible microbreweries.

I have a lot of friends who live in Boulder and absolutely love it there. Not sure about the airports but being at the foot of the mountains and having the national park right there is pretty sick.

Wtf, take a trip to SF with her. She needs to change her mind. The bay area is the nuts. SD is also pretty cool, but just has a strange feeling to me for some reason.. LA is awesome too, but not for everyone. As for Boulder, I haven't been, but I'd think to live full time it would be better to be in Cali somewhere, where you can enjoy the ocean, mountains, and a real city.

    GO to BOULDER!!!

I would give anything to be able to work in the rockies.

And, I can give an opinion on Austin - it actually is a pretty cool little town with a very low cost of living comparative to hte other things on your list. If y'all like drinking, Austin is def a good city for it. There are some outdoor activities to do, though you will be limitd in the winter and when it's ungodly hot, so like...1/4 of hte year.

Oh, and you'll have UT FOOTBALL!

This. I've only been to SF once, but found that it was an awesome city. If I was to move away from WA that's probably the first place I'd have in mind.

And if you like garlic, The Stinking Rose is the greatest restaurant ever. It's almost worth moving there just for that.

Yeah, I'm trying to plan a trip to SF in the late Spring/early Summer. We have a lot of friends out there.

Austin is sounding more and more like it's not an option. She's not a big drinker and I'm slowly losing my form.

As for San Diego and LA, I'm much prefer San Diego. No interest in the LA scene or culture. However, I worry this may be evident in San Diego as well.

Boulder sounds like a great place but may be a little too "remote" for our tastes.

I think if you have the means to do it, you should definitely move around a couple times when you're young. Where you live has such a big effect on how happy you are and if you stay in the same place your whole life, how do you know you wouldn't like someplace else better?

That being said I think these best place to live lists are pretty useless because everyone likes different things. Just go visit for a couple weeks like some other people said. As for Boulder I've only spent a week there years ago but the scenery is incredible and it's only 30 miles from Denver.

I think you are crazy for wanting to leave Manhattan though. But whaddabout Miami? Hope you don't hate art deco

Somewhere in Florida (Miami beach, Hialeah, Pembroke Pines, Ft. Lauderdale etc.) or San Fran imo.

    San fran is awesome.
Boulder is remote for an eastcoaster, the best airport would be dia.
i don't know anything about austin.
san diego and la are nice.

lebanon nh is nice also and maybe boise id.

I think a lot of people fail to really give LA a chance because they go in with these preconceptions of what it is and what it will be like. Sure some of those preconceptions apply, but LA is more of a collection of cities than one city, so they only apply to certain parts of the city.

There is no substitute for actually liking the prospect of going outside and being able to do things. The Rockies pretty much...well...rock!

That's one of the nice things about the Seattle area too. We've got sandy beaches, rain forest, mountains, desert, and anything in between.

Not that I ever actually go outside.

Of course internet pokerz is lolfelony here and it's generally pretty grey out, so that prob takes it out of the running for your gf as well.

I think we'd do san fran over seattle because of the sun issue. Also, while I don't hate Miami I don't think I'm that interested in it and certainly nowhere else in Florida. I hate Florida. Sorry.

I live less than an hour out of LA and my rule is I don't go there if I don't have to. Really you're talking about LA county as a whole, which has it's good and bad. Malibu >>>>>>>>> The Valley for example. There's a ton of fun to be had throughout LA tho and the way to do it is to live outside it's borders and go in when you want or need to.

There's a shit ton of beach and mountain communities around LA that give easy access to the city but have more of a small town vibe. It's also possible to do things like hang out at the beach in the morning and ski/snowboard in the afternoon. Friscos a short road trip away not to mention places like Monterey and Santa Cruz.

If BigDouchebag wanted to stop being such a dick for a minute I could help him figure out some possibilties of than omfg Boulder Co.

I've been to boulder several times when I was younger. It's an awesome place to be if you love doing stuff out doors (rock climbing, mountain biking, snowboarding...) and the city is really clean. It would def be one of my top places to move to if I was able. Also its fairly close to places like colorado springs, golden, and denver. And the coors brewery. And I believe Fat Tire is brewed actually in Boulder...

Oskar Blues is brewed near boulder also. ft collins has a bud brewery.

Meh close enough. I know here in Indiana, Fat Tire just got here last year, but my dad has been bringing cases of it back on his yearly trip out there for like the last 10 years. Like I said its been awhile since I've been there but it was pretty awesome.

The New Belgium brewing company has about 43000 other beers that are far superior to Fat Tire
So you click their picture and then you get their money?

fail for a brewer. i expect more from you king nat.
new belgium does do better than fat tire.
fat tire on tap is excellent, but it does not travel well. tap fat tire within 80 miles of ft collins is amazing. in tyhe botttle the stanard abbey is my favorite.

odells is in my opinion better than new belgium. oskar bleus also rocks/
