Results 1 to 34 of 34

    Default Big Ten > SEC

    Penn State > Tennessee
    Wisconsin > Arkansas

Florida's "resume" is looking weaker by the minute.

im sick of hearing how much faster the sec is then everybody.

thats what they said last year too that wisconsin didnt have a chance against auburn because they were too fast... turned out we were too fast for them.

I don't want to turn this into a michigan is better than florida debate. I agree that with the current system, florida should be playing ohio state. But it seems like everyone was underestimating the strength of the Big Ten.
  5. #5
yeah florida should get there chance but osu and mich were definetly the 2 top teams this year.

    Bob,

after the USC dismantling of the wolverines, do you still feel that michigan deserved to play OSU in the title game and that they are the 2nd best team in the country?

    No.

But do you believe that with the Big Ten's big wins over the SEC, do you believe that Florida still has the better regular season resume than Michigan?

I think LSU is the 2nd best team in the nation, not Florida by the way.
  13. #13
Also, I believe that Lloyd Carr is one of the worst big game coaches in college football.

It certainly evens things up, but I still think the SEC is the toughest conference in college football from top to bottom. I would agree that the top 3 teams from the big 10 are clearly above the top 3 teams from any other conference though fwiw. But honestly, besides the buckeyes, wolverines, and badgers, the rest of the big 10 is a joke this year. I guess penn state gets an honorable mention.

yeah I would put LSU up there. Honestly, with the benefit of seeing today's games, I think USC is the 2nd best team in the country. Going into today I would have said Michigan.

That's pretty funny since you used the results of two games that turned on a play or two to make a point that the Big 10 is better than the SEC.

    Hypocrite much?

I can't really tell if this is tongue in cheek.... but anyways...

This is 100% accurate.. of course the best team doesn't always win... there is an expectation of winning for both teams... if the two teams played an ensemble of games (the same players under the same conditions for 1,000,000 games Team A would win X% of those games and Team B would win 100-X% of those games (no ties in college football).

The biggest misperception in football is that that best team always wins... and that's just fantastically stupid. For those that really want to get behind all the bullshit of football-ese that talks about players being "just a winner" and that kinda crap you should check out www.footballoutsiders.com

... and no this is not spam.. this is just g00t stuff, imo.

Going into both of those games, the general consensus was that the SEC was so much better than the Big Ten. In fact, during the whole Florida/Michigan debate, most people said that Florida's win over Arkansas was a big win while Michigan's win over Wisconsin was nothing special because Wisconsin had not played anyone. Ok, maybe a better title for this thread is "The BigTen is just as good as the SEC". The truth is, we will never know who the better conference is because we won't be able to match up every 2006 SEC team with every 2006 Big Ten team infinity times.

The only point I'm making is that all the people who were saying that the reason Florida got into the National Championship game over Michigan because their resume was better since the SEC is a better conference than the Big Ten need to reevaluate their statements. The reason Florida got in over Michigan is because the people who run the BCS needed to put Florida in there, otherwise they are basically admitting that the current system is flawed (even though everyone already knows it is).

Hopefully in future posts you can use a little more rational tone for your posts since I'm interested in having a debate rather than a childish name calling war.

    Wow, aren't you sensitive?

As for this being some kind of rational debate, that's exactly why I posted. The kind of logic you are using in this "debate" is designed to support your personal opinion and devoid of any systematic reasoning. If you could get over the negative connotations of the word hypocrite, you'd realize it hits the mark in this case.

If you think you're any different from the hordes of fans that have had these identical arguments since the institution of the BCS, you are kidding yourself. The only way the fans of top teams that get shut out of the NC game will ever be satisfied is with a playoff system.

I'm not even sure what you're trying to debate about college football other than the fact which my logic is flawed.

(And yes lukie, i probably do)

I wasn't trying to debate anything, I was just trying to have a little fun with a post in the Community Forum. I never realized that I was in the College Football debate forum. When I saw your circular logic, I thought I'd poke a little fun. Sorry if I struck a nerve.

All I have to say is that the Michigan team that played yesterday against USC was not the same Michigan team that lost to OSU. Bob, what happened to your boys?

Both defenses looked fine through the first half when the score was 3-3. But in the 2nd half USC went nuts...

We were outcoached and outplayed. Simple as that. Give Pete Carroll credit, but once again Lloyd Carr was outcoached in a bowl game. ho-hum. He's finished the last 3 seasons losing the final 2 games and I cannot wait to he's out.

I don't know what conference is the best, but head to head, it has been the Big Ten.

The only major flaw with the SEC is they played nobody but each other all season long. So if you play close games against each other and 3 or 4 teams end up with 1 or 2 losses it makes you the best conference? Maybe the fact is that your conference was average top to bottom and looked good because they didn't play anyone.

Look at the SEC schedule the only team to beat a top 25 team (outside the SEC) this year was Tennessee who beat Cal 35-18.

Arkansas played USC and got drilled 50-14. Vanderbilt played Michigan and got beat 27-7. Ole Miss played Wake Forest and lost 27-3.

So sure the SEC records look good, but again they only beat up on themselves and weaker opponents.

The dregs of the SEC lost to top 25 teams out of conference. Meaningless.

Michigan got thumped pretty good in the second half of the Rose Bowl by USC. Arkansas kept it pretty close for a half as well.

Where are all the Big 10 out of conference games against top 25 teams? Looking at the composite schedule and results, I see Texas and Notre Dame a couple of times, but not a whole lot else. Most of the OOC games seem to be against direction schools, which often aren't even Div I-A.
