    Default Supernova 2010

I've decided to make a lot of changes in my life, as far as 2010 goes. Including:
    1) Drastically cut my social life
    2) Deprive myself from traveling
    3) Increase my stress level
    4) Decrease the fun of playing poker

All in the name of making as much money as possible.

I hope to attain the SNE level on PokerStars during the next 12 months. The main reason is listed at the end of the following synopsis of my year that was 2009... feel free to skip the next little bit, it's more of a journal entry than anything else.

    2009:
In early January, I decided to move to British Columbia Canada, to live with a fellow FTR member known as 'TwoSmeets.' The first time I met him was at the airport upon my arrival. The two of us plus his younger brother 'benzooka' rented a house in buttfuckidaho, set up a wireless connection, and grind the shit out of the place. We were there for 3 months and had a great time. Snowboarding, video games, and playing poker was the name of the game. I didn't actually start getting my ass into gear until the last 2 weeks because I was having too much fun just dicking around in the all-sausage house.

I visited Vancouver a couple times before my month long stay in April. A friend of mine from Victoria was able to hook me up with a great deal at a hotel in the heart of downtown for as long as I wanted. So, I stayed in this $450/night hotel for 4 weeks for only about $2000. Walking to Edgewater casino, Kamei Royale Japanese Restaurant, and the Vancouver Aquarium were very common activities during this time. I also took the float planes back and forth to Victoria a bunch of times.

Two other guys I met on FTR include: 'sweetlemon' and 'd0zer.' Apparently I went to the same high school as them. Anyways, we met up in 2008, and in May of 2009, I attended sweetlemon's wedding in the Dominican Republic. d0zer was his best man, and god damn it was such a gongshow. Can't wait to do it again somewhere sometime with those two. I've also met countless other FTR members in 2009, but I'm not going to try to name them all because they are all too good of people to forget one or two.

In May, I went to Las Vegas for 4 weeks. I came back home with just as much money as I went there with, so I'd say it was a success. It was my first time to Sin City but not my last. I played in event #4 at the WSOP and got my ass handed to me. Fantastic trip overall. I went with a guy I met through TwoSmeets who happened to meet him on PokerStars, named Adrian. If you happen to meet him and get to know him well, he'll be the first and most frequent person to let you know how many more bb/100 he gets than you. He's by far the best online and live player I've met. I've learned a lot from him and hope to continue that trend into 2010. I live in the Toronto area and in July I took the train to visit him in Montreal. Sorry I couldn't be there this past weekend buddy, hope it was a blast!

September was a month for Ottawa with family. The first of two visits was for my Great Grandmothers 100th birthday. The second was for a funeral for my Uncle Rupert. I love visiting with friends and family I haven't seen for a while, so long as it's for happy occasions. I'm not very close with either relative but I sure wish everyone I knew lived in the same city.

In November, I went back to Sin City, this time for two weeks. Brutal trip overall, although I had some great nights. I came down with the flu for the second half and spent/lost $6k overall on the trip. Again, went with Adrian.

Also in November, I bought my first home, in Oakville Ontario. There was no way I could possibly get a mortgage from any bank with my source of income, so my parents stepped up to the plate and cosigned their life away. I can't thank them enough. It's a 3-story townhouse, 3 bedrooms, 2 washrooms, small kitchen, badass basement for live poker with the boys. Last night was our first game there and it turned out awesome. I look forward to BBQ's in the summer in the backyard and being able to rent out a couple rooms on the upper floor. I wanted a place close to the local College in hopes of a small second income to help pay for this place. Which leads me to my main drive behind SNE 2010: Mortgage to be paid.

2009 was truly my favorite year to date. I owe it all to family, friends, and the poker community that is FTR. TYVM

    Setup:
I'm currently still playing on a laptop in my housecoat. I plan on purchasing a couple of 20-24" monitors along with a desktop, to maximize efficiency attaining VPP's. Please, any advice is greatly appreciated regarding multi-tabling setups. Also, advice with SNE in general is welcomed all day everyday. I'm torn between Stacked and Tiling. Pretty sure I'm going to do 20 tables to begin. BTW, I still play 200NL FR (wow it's been too long).

I'm thinking of doing two and sometimes three 3-hour sessions at 6 days/week. I hear PokerStars plans to change their VPP program in a way that (rumor has it) I will need to play 8% more hands on the year than SNE required in 2009. I really hope the WSOP ME is still an option as far as the 100k VPP gift goes. The way it works is: You buy into the ME with FPP, Stars puts clothing on you, and ships 100k VPP (excludes FPP value and not sure about milestone value). If this is a carry over option, I will gladly knock off 10% of my VPP for $10k worth of FPP.

    Prop Bets:
To increase motivation, I've decided to take action @ 3-1 against me achieving SNE. Example: I bet $100, attain SNE, receive $300. Or fail and lose the $100. I hope I'm wording this correctly. The following bets have been placed:

TwoSmeets: $1000 @ 1:1 (first player to reach SNE ships the other $1k)
    sweetlemon: $100 @ 3:1
    d0zer: $200 @ 3:1
    Kingnat: $100 @ 3:1
    Bbickes: $800 @ 3:1
    killsaids: $300 @ 3:1

    Conclusion:
I have zero plans for 2010. So why not make SNE? Who knows how deep this goldmine that is online poker will go. Might as well make the best of it while I still have the chance.

Wow man, sick poker bio. Read the whole thing and really enjoyed it.

Good luck with SNE next year, I thought about going for it, decided against, though there still is a small chance..reading this is pretty motivating (though I think I still lack the experience). Anyway I'll see you around the tables

As for your setup, give 'Table Ninja' a demo if you haven't already. It's a hot key program designed exclusively for PokerStars and can automate some things (i.e. clicking waiting for blind, choosing buy in amount etc) and speed shit up.

Also make sure you have a good chair, comfortable mouse, keyboard, etc. (I'm sure you are aware of this). Also, perhaps look into the n52te if you haven't tried it out, which goes nicely with Table Ninja for hot keys.

That's all I got for multitabling advice, I'm sure there are people who know better that can point you in the right direction.

    Best of luck.

sounds like 2009 was a blast, nice one!
and best of luck for 2010, I'm not interested in prop-betting against you cos i want you to make it, and don't want to have any reason not to wish you all the best on this front! although, based on chubby-chasing precedent...

i was thinking about joining the chase, but that's just too intimidating now that i've pulled out my roll.

re the monitors, figure out how you want your setup to look, then figure out what pixels you need for it, then get the monitors. Too easy to get this all the wrong way around! experiment with various AHK solutions, tiling and stacking, etc. Do it now.

Stay ahead of pace. Always. Everything I've read about SNE is that if you're at 550k end June then life is a lot easier than being at 850 heading into december.

learn to shortstack. Sounds appalling, but you need the x vpps/day, and some days it may simply be better to run nit 20bb styles.

do a lot of exercise. Healthy diet. pre-empt any oos risk by making sure your set-up is perfect. stretch and gym/running/swimming/whatever. Drink a lot of water.

    don't get recluse on it.

Why? Because some days I may feel brain dead and wish to play robotic? Is there a better time of day to SS than playing full? I've never played SS but think this might turn into a good tool for certain days. Any great links with strategy?

    TY

I was so seriously considering Vancouver, that I met with a real estate agent downtown to go over my options. Turned out Vancouver was about 1.5x in price vs where I am now. I plan on visiting again in late May for a week. Keep your calender open Donkbee!

Happy holidays everyone! I was spoiled with gifts this year, as everything I got was something of a housewarming gift.

The following list are my top five goals for 2010, along with what I believe to be my chances of success in each category. Also, this list is in priority from #1 through #5:

    1) Quit smoking (50%)
    2) Eat healthy (80%)
    3) Physical activity regularly (80%)
    4) Net six figures (95%)
    5) Attain SNE (>33%)

You can see, my health and well-being is more important to me at this moment in time.

As far as my recent poker goes, it's been great over the last small sample. I've only played 3 sessions for a total of 10 hours since moving on the 15th. After 10k hands, I was able to log an 8bb/100 over that sample. I need 11.5k VPP before 2010 to access the $2k milestone @ the 200k VPP mark. Here's to hoping I can maintain a SNE pace during my last 4 days of 2009! If I can't, this operation is hopeless.

Huge brag: 200k VPP cleared. Last 35 hrs of gameplay = 34k hands; +44 BI + FPP. Ship it Lee Jones. I did 16k hands in the last 16 hours. This SNE chase is going to be easy. Here's my graph for the year (excluding Jan.):

95% Of it is 12-14 tabling. I started 20-24 tabling over the last 10k vpp.

    Update:

Here are my stats for the last 48 hours (All of the poker in 2010) (translates to 8.4k VPP):

Cheers to running good! I've noticed that my vpip, pfr, 3bet%, and agg factor have all decreased while increasing the # of tables, standard though.

I've begun a schedule whereby I am playing 3 days in a row, then taking one off, rinse repeat. The playing days consist of 2 sessions, each session being 4 hours, 24 tabling 200NL FR. I'm extremely excited about this new year now that I have finally started playing, the hard part for me is maintaining a consistent sleeping schedule. I'm exhausted... Let the record show that this has nothing to do with poker and more to do with me just wanting to do other things than go to bed.
