Default Operation learn to play poker

I fucked up my last operation.

After breaking even on 50Nl 6max for 75k hands I decided to switch back to full rings. Either I simply suck at 6max or full rings at iPoker are far more juicy than shorthanded tables. It might be variance, but PT shows me, that i haven´t won a stack with a set for like 25k hands, which put me pretty on life tilt. I grinded my initial roll back and bonus and rakeback made it possible to move up to 100NL, occassionally adding one or two 200NL tables, when the deepstack donks show up on the weekend.

I´m having some undefined problems with my internet connection and right now i´m unable to play more than three consecutive hands without timing out once, so i can´t put in many hands. When the problem is fixed/new laptop is delivered i´m looking forward to log 10k hands/week, grind 100/200 on regular basis and hopefully give the 400/600 tables a shot, when my roll allows me to. I´ll be playing some 6max at prima from time to time and if I mamage to run okay i might give 100nl 6m a shot as well again.

I just read through Jager´s Blog/OP...it´s so sick and i complain about breaking even for a couple of weeks. it somewhat scares me, that guys who play way above my skill-level can run so bad, b/c i doubt that i could handle such a brutal streak.

I didn´t play much the last days, my internet connection is at the speed of a 14.4 dial up modem and i have exams to learn for the next weeks, i wouldn´t have much time to gamble anyway.

I tried to identify my strengths and weaknesses this morning and i found it pretty hard, to put that in words.

For 6max I can´t really point out what i´m doing good, there are few things i consider "okay":

    - my preflop game is okay, i´m fairly too passive IP with several limpers. I experimented with opening my 3betting range IP without getting in too much trouble.

    - turn and river play are okay, tho i feel like i´m missing some value here and there

    - adjusting to postflop aggro´s

    - hand reading, as long as i´m playing <6 tables and against at least somewhat rational opponents

-table/seat selection. I´m practicing active table selection, choosing tables for their pf%, chips at the table, av. pot size. My seat selsction is passive, i know when to leave a table

    6max weaknesses

    - Flop-play. Especially oop I get myself frequently in trouble and produce hard decisions for me on later streets. Biggest leak here is calling (check)-minraises without a plan for my turn-play.

    - Spew. For some reason I think people are re-stealing/making a stand far more often than they actually are. In combination with the point mentioned before i´m bleeding tons of chips here.
Also I´m 3barelling too much against known chasers, when the obvious draw misses. Usually i´m right, but I´m wrong, when I assume villian will fold his TPWK/NK when his A5s spikes the A. This leads to the next point

    - Losing to bad players. I can survive a taggy table, i´m beating the passive abc´s, i´m not paying off the 10/4 guy, but it seems I´m unable to profit from non-thinking one tablers. I haven´t found the right postflop play against them yet. After reading Jager´s blog it would be easy to blame variance, but my good hands can´t make up for the suck outs.

I´m gonna write more about my full ring play the next days. I´m running quite good and feel confident there. Beside the nitty 8+tablers full cirsuits are soooooo juicy on ipn.

Seems like my connection is working now. Had to buy a new dvd-drive after a XP cd detonated in the old drive.

Played a couple of sng´s on stars yesterday on my housemates second workstation....I couldn´t resist the urge to gamble. Mostly 5.50 4 players HU and I did pretty well. Got sucked out twice but felt like i had an edge over those guys.

I´m looking forward to finally log 1 or 2 k hands tonight, will post results later.

Session end, +$138 (incl. $30 Bonus), played okay, made a "u kidding me?"-call early tonight, which cost me nearly a stack, when villian massively overbet the river into my 2pair. I put him on a missed FD, he showed me the only hand I didn´t think of: 35 for the flopped straight. Would love to post hands, where I owned a german lagtard hard, but pt doesnt work yet. Suppose the only thing I suck more than in Poker is software.

I feel very confident at full rings, i was running ~14-16/7-10 the last 10k hands. The regs i´ve noticed so far run tight as my ex like 10/4 and it´s hard not to switch into autopilot mode, when everybody else is. Shorthanded I consider my flop-play slightly worse than average, 10-handed I haven´t been into many tough spots so far and I think I can beat the guys I´ve played so far. Feels pretty good, to get back the confidence in your game.

    time to go to bed.

took some tough beats tonight and am still good $200 up. I run hot, yo!

My housemate told me to switch to IPN full rings, when i struggled with my 6max game, promising the competition is not far from what i´ve seen when I played 25NL fr. Didn´t believe him, but it´s an unexpected small gap between the average skill levels.
Added 3 200NL tables tonight and did okay. Played pretty nitty, so I didn´t get involved in too many tough spots, got sucked out twice and still finished a few bucks up.
A good chunk of my recent winnigs is just running hot, but unlike shorthanded I don´t drop all that much after a good run. And when I´m honest with myself, I haven´t changed much with my game, since I haven´t had enough time to think much about poker. Only adjustements I´ve made are:

    - adjusting my calling range IP, I´m playing loads of mid sc´s against deep tight raisers, mucking KQ/AJ often
    - fixed my "spew"-leak at least a bit, I will never ever again forget to think about the odds I´m offering, when I´m bluffing the river, which cut my 3barell frequency in half
    - tightening up my cbets oop, paying more attention to flop texture, when cbetting

Here I go again. Didn´t get to play much the last days, but therefore I collected some A´s and B´s in school

I cleaned up my PT and converted the db to PostgreSQL format, but until now the perfomance hasn´t increased much.

Dropped the two buy ins I set aside for 200NL, dropped 4 buy ins at 50NL heads up, most of it due to playing drunk.

Grinded half the losses out at 50NL 6m and 100NL fr yesterday. It´s a conflict atm, I want to play 6max, but:

    - I don´t feel confident enough to yet, to play 100NL 6max
    - Full Rings are juicier
    - I can handle 8 to 9 tables fr running 16, 9 but can´t play more than 5 tables 6max

My strategy for august is to put in 2 sessions per night, one multi-roboting fr and a second session with 4 to 5 tables 6max to improve postflop game and hand reading abilities.

Time for a short update. OP manager doesnt work, so I´ll update my manually here,
    starting BR: 3k
    current BR: 3.6k

already reached 4k on friday, last night variance kicked in. Set over set, top two vs top set, KK vs AK pre AI and so on. Since I sucked out myself my a couple of times before I dont want to complain, but what really bothers me, is that I had to pay off the nits. Will post the hands later and hope for feedback.

I experimantated with opening up and ran 21/15 my last 5k hands and did pretty well. Only adjustements the somewhat solid opponents made were to slowplay me a lot. I think I managed pretty well to splash around in small pots and avoid big pots without a big hand, so their slowplaying tendencies made them nothing but a cbet every now and then, while I collected stacks with mid sc´s. I am taking out my bike now and rock some dirtjumps and tonight I´ll give 100NL 6max a shot again. I´m not feeling confident yet, so I´ll try 3 or 4 tabling and stop before I go on tilt.

    Day X

Still doing okay, am roughly breaking even for the last 7k hands, but I still feel good and confident. Managed to maintain a 20/15ish style I really like to play. Only things that bothers is me is having a "slowplay me" sign nailed on my forehead. I suppose I can manage to run that ....is 20/15 considered "LAG"?....aggro pre, it just sucks in overpair vs overpair confrontations. Mucked QQ against TT yesterday and payed off AA with KK. Both hands weren´t AI and both pots reached no more than 170bb.

I´m 9-tabling atm and I think I can do this for a reason:

-98% of opponents are either simply bad or 10/4 robots
-the guys I can consider good are sharing at least 3/4 the tables with me
-It´s easier to not-tilt when the coolers hit, as long as I´m earning good bonus and rb moniez
-I can play more poker in less time, makes it possible to get some sleep before I go to work.

Any comments would be appreciated guys, if u read, u have to write yo!

    Here we go again.

Anyone who read my stats-thread already knows, why I haven´t been posting for a couple of weeks. I ran so bad at the end of august, that I had to take a couple days off poker. Began playing again a week ago, autopiloting 100NL and mixing in 2 session 50NL 6m. Idk why, but while I´m playing confidently 100NL fr I´m still not confident enough to play 100NL 6m.

Yesterdays session was not nice, I´m down 3 1/2 stacks and here are the hands that cost me money:

No reads on villian, I might have mucked my 5´s here, but I saw him to have AK often enough to show down:

Now this hand is more tricky. Onnistud is pretty strong and capable of some fancy moves and he probably views me as solid with slightly laggy tendencies preflop. None of has gotten out of line so far and I saw him limp-raising KK and AA ocassionally.

    I´ve become a lazy guy.
September ended with unexpected profit. After a while my image pays out. I´m running now constantly somewhere around 14-17/10-12. Looking through pt i´ve found my stats to be way more aggro than other 100/200NL regulars at IPN. Since most of the solid winners play standard 12/6ish I´ve had long discussions with two friends, if I´m leaking chips when I´m raising wide oop and do raise marginal holdings IP with loads of limpers and if I shouldnt be tightening up, b/c other guys crushing the game do so. the last 15k hands were the best example, why raising wide is so important:

-denying setfarmers their implied odds, they cant expect me to stack off often enough to justify preflop calls, but they call anyway and fold best hands frequently on flop/turn

-Passives still adjust towards playing more passive. Once they get annoyed by being raised off their limping blind they wait for premium and slowplay. Stacking off against my sets and allowing me to draw profitable postflop.

    iPoker loyalty
I dont know, if my readers play on IPN (do I have readers?), but iPoker changed their loyalty politic. Classic rb-deals via affiliates are no longer avaiable, therefore certain skins are offering cashback/sponsorship deals and play out rake-races. All the deals are based on the player points u earn and not on the rake a player contributes. I know 3 skins, which pay a certain amount per 100k points, another is running a rake race that is a point-race in fact. These circumstances produce players, with a weird understanding of the game: earn as many points as possible, playing poker becomes secondary. I´ve seen ppl 18-tabling 100/200NL 100BB deep. The majority of the fpp-farmers shortstack multiple tables (10+) in an ultra nitty way, which makes the games on working days quite dry.
This politic is pretty smart, b/c it gives the risk-avers players, who prefer a "save" payout, say 1k per 100k points, and gives them a feeling, that they dont have to put money at risk. I´ve talked to one of the shortstackers, who said he´s -0.07BB/100, but is making good money from cashback. My next quest is, how to exploit those guys in the most profitable way.

    Playing live
Last week I went to Holland and played live in a casino for the first time in my life. Holland Casino offers 2-2NL, 400EUR max buy in. I shortstacked 125 short, since I wanted to get a feeling for playing live first and ended about 100EUR up. I didnt want to believe it first, but 2-2 live equals 50NL online and worse, even on working days.

Finally, my september graph. My first month since april, that shows solid profit.

I´m such a loser when it comes to keep my OP up to date. Not spending enough time analyzing my game, reviewing session and thinking about certain problems I´m confronted with is probably one of my biggest leaks.

I bought a new computer . Something was wrong with my old desktop, I wasnt able to use PAHUD and it took pt like years to open the statistics window. Had to withdraw a good part of my BR to buy this thing, but it´s +ev in multiple ways. I´m no longer supposed to pay off unknown nits and paying off nits wont tilt me anymore. I´m having trouble mirgrating my Postgres-DB to the new Vista-machine, but I´m confident that issue will be solved soon.

Last week I realized how much of a multitabling robot I´ve become playing fr. It´s probably my fault, 12tabling 14/11ish was cool for a while, but it´s so obvious how it cripples my learning progress. And there´s a lot to progress.

I decided that I wont become a winning player when I´m just roboting multiple fr tables. I earned good money, grinding 2.1BB/100 plus a good number of Bonus and RB moniez, but with this attidude I´m bound to 100NL like forever. So I took a shot at 200NL 6max and f****ed things up, dropping 4 1/2 BI in one hour. I´m still quite confident that I can beat those games, I just need to stop playing when I´m in tilt-mood and above 100NL the 20x BI-rule doesnt apply anymore. I´ll take the next shot when I´ve grinded out 30-35BI.

To practice hand-/playerreading, adjusting accordingly and having patience (and not only talking about) I have started a 25k hands HU-challenge. I´m doing this at 50NL b/c I expect a huge variance. I´ve completed roughly 3k hands so far and already swung 14BI.

    edit:

two of tonights sessions are here http://weaktight.com/s762 and here http://weaktight.com/s763 comments appreciated.

    25k hands HU challenge:

    3.5k hands
    +$371

Never expected to run so good. Read a lot, espeicially ISF´s thoughts on cash HU gave me great insights how to approach the game the right way. If you read this, thank you.

villian seems to be regular 50NL HU. He probably doesnt know me here, he didnt play me anymore with my other screenname

I applaud your decision to play less tables.

In fact, I never understood why people would play a million tables, ultratight, only to "get points".

    thanks =)

I actually didn´t play supertight, I never ran below 14/11 and thats quite wild compared to what I´m playing against at FR. Half the regs (reg defined as a person who plays a lot, regardless of skills) arent going beyond 9/5 at best.

Still it´s just roboting with 12+ tables. A friend of mine who´s recently decided to play full time is 16tabling 200NL SH and does quite well. I cant see, how I will ever be able to do this, but that guy and many others here on FTR show that it´s possible.

Fortunately my month started pretty chaotic regarding poker and I decided not to grind the hard way like the weeks before. This will be a pure "play, improve and have fun at the tables"-november. All the things I lost before with a "I have to grind xk points/xk hands"-mindset.

I played 2 sessions of 100NL FR this week, putting in 3.5k hands. Small profit, two major mistakes, learned from that.

HU challenge is still running, 5k hands so far and I´m still in the green. Playing HU made me realize, that I had completely misunderstood "patience" on my way. It´s not about waiting for cards, they dont matter that much, HU it´s waiting for oponents major mistake. I´ve played tough guys so far I was struggling with, but everytime I lost/won a big pot it was always a hand where the losing player should have felt the urge to kick himself in the balls for playing that stupid.

wow, this weekend was just quite horrible. Played 100NL exclusively and got beat hard. Tonight i logged 2k hands with a w$@sd at 36% lol

ran constantly 15/12 which felt pretty good to play. Tightened up a bit with cold calling sc´s IP and 3bet LP raiser a bit wider than I´m used to from the blinds.

I´m down 5 buy-ins for the past two days, half the money was just taken by one of braindonks soldiers, the other half was close but possibly simply played bad on my part.

My only comment is on hand 2: what do you up put villain's range on? AKs, AQs, AA, QQ, JJ, Axs? Do you think he stays in the hand with more than that? I think maybe betting 1/2 pot on flop is good enough and giving up the hand on turn if spades hit or is hit too weak-tight?

Ya, betting less on flop is definetly an option, as giving up on an spade turn is. His range after calling flop is weightened to QQ/AA/AQ and I´d mostly discount fd´s so I still would´ve had a hard time folding.

Put in two sessions last night, 1k hands 50NL HU and roughly 400 hands 200NL FR. Made money at HU tables and lost it on FR tables

Good morning peoples. thank your for coming to my OP.

Had an incredible run this weekend. Started out on friday adding 2 more BI to this weeks losses, getting beat hard. took some coolers and really strange beats, I´ve got shown things like K4s in 3bet pots and other weird stuff. Right at friday midnight the tables turned and I started to hit again (w$@sd was like 35% the past 4k hands). Made roughly 1k, losses recovered, feeling good. Gonna take a shower now and will then post interesting hands.

Oh, since this OP-thingy in my sig isnt working:

    BR goal: $10k
    Current BR: $5.5k

yay, completed my 10k hands weekend!
My buddy who was challenging me gave up due to a brutal dead run of cards, so it was up to me to play 10k hands of FR. Ended up 1.1k, which lets me break even for november, running tighter than usual@13/9. yummy yummy, will post stats and hands tonight.

aight, i missed to post hands and stats and right now I´m too drunk and lazy to walk thru pt.

Played a mini session tonight and dropped 2.5BI. One stack I got 2 outed on turn, another KK vs. AA AI pre, another half a stack for pulling off a retarded move against an unknown TAG. gg me, I still suck.

Since november comes to it´s end and I won´t get to play much poker before december I´m thinking about my next operation. To set yourself a defined goal makes it easier for me to achieve my goals and as you can read above my goals so far where far from being precise.

I thought about this topic the last days and came to the following conclusion:

    - I will graduate in business administration and engineering somewhere in the next 15-18 months and there are no reasons to think that I won´t get a job immediately, pulling off something between 40-50k EUR/year.

-Good jobs with an acceptable salary aren´t done in 40hrs/week, which has two consequences:

I simply won´t have the time anymore to grind all night long at SSHE and I will definetly be lacking motivation to do this when I´m pulling off a sum per year, that I can´t even imagine how to spend it right now (I´m sure I will know, when I get the first check =)). Since I love poker, am quite obsessed with playing it and will keep it as a hobby I have two options:

    a) donking around .5/1 and 1/2, grinding my roll up to 12k or something, then cash out and play exclusively live poker in local casinos. This option has one big unknown factor. Tho I´d really love to work in scandinavia, I will work whereever I see most money/best prospect for personal growth and the stakes offered live differ from one county to another. If destiny wants me work in some arabian state my plan for live poker is screwed.

    This leaves option b)
Make my way to midstakes. Playing midstakes I will have enough money at risk and will be facing a good enough opposition to stay focused and respectful. Putting in 5k hands/week could be satisfying PLUS:

If this plan works I might get the life bonus to be able to fold work for a couple of months and therefore play poker and extend the good time before really growing up, earning money/paying taxes on a regular basis and things u do when u have graduated.

    GL me, here we go

    edit:

Whatever my next goal will be, I will start my operation in january 08. Until then I will

-play at least 20k hands HU

-reread TOP and NLHE T&P and will kick my lazy ass to really think it through. Not just consuming but absorbing all those thoughts to get a clearer and deeper understanding of the fundamental mathematical concepts in poker and try to apply those concepts.

-take a shot at PLO. This will be pretty tough with very few books and onlinestrats aviable. I´m looking forward to donk around with some guys here on FTR and hopefully learn from them.

    Short update:

I´ve decided to start my new "Make it to midstakes"-challenge in January. During December I´m just too busy with girls and xmas celebrations, family stuff and things.

I will use this month to set up everything so I can start out clear and focused, I will play some more heads up, calculate exactly which iPoker skin has the best deal aviable for me, re-read some books and do some ev-calcs on my own (ya, u heard right, hope ppl will discuss them with me and tell they´re shit when I´ve missed the point)
