HAND 3A)

Time for some more problematic hands. This is a common situation: top pair + nut flush draw. A felting hand in Texas Holdem, but this is not Holdem. I like potting the flop. I’m never drawing dead, and I’m setting up my opponents for potentially big mistakes if they’re calling with 2 pair or a lower flush draw, and getting value from a straight draw. Villain had a fairly wide pre flop raising range, and I was willing to run the risk of meeting the last two aces. When he flat calls the flop, it’s obvious he doesn’t have a set, so I push and pray he folds 2 pair.

Villain was 23VPIP (that’s fairly tight for PLO) over 100 hands. He wasn’t a very inventive player, but I wasn’t sure if he’d call with a 3 being so tight and lead the flop into my PFR with it. Comments on this hand appreciated.

What do you think? Perhaps it would have been better to lead the flop and fold to a raise. With a broadway straight and 2 spades on the board I think I overvalued my middle set here. I’m prone to overvaluing sets. It’s probably my biggest leak at the moment. There had already been a hand where I put it all in with middle set against a bigger set and a flush draw and was drawing dead. I don’t have much idea how to play this flop AT ALL. Check raising turns a good hand into a semi-bluff, and check calling seems to open up a can of worms.
