Default John Boy's Crushing Tournaments Thread

    Hey guys.

I've just joined up and thought I'd start a little thread tracking my progress. I've been playing MTTs for a while and had some success on FTP before it shut down but had been a lifetime loser on Stars until recently.

For the last couple of months, I've been backed and started out playing 45mans (up to $3.50s) and have had some success there and slowly added in MTTs. I've moved up since then from a max buy-in of $3 to $8 games with an ABI of around $4.

In the last 2 months, I've had some really good results over a small sample, with two 4-figure scores (previously, I only had one to my name in my life), one in the Big $2.20 with a win and a 4th place finish in the Bigger $5.50.

Planning on updating this with interesting hands, any decent runs, rail requests etc. Feel free to post any questions or comments and I'll try and get back to them. I don't think I can post pics or links yet, but when I can I'll put a graph or something here.

Gah, not sure why it's come up so small, but you can click the link to see. It shows ~$4.1k profits since May 30th in MTTs.

It's nice to have some MTTs players around here now

Are you a student? Or do you have a full time job?

Yup, I started late, 3 years to be precise, but I'm 22 and just going into 2nd year at Sheffield university studying English Language and Linguistics. Can't wait to get to back 'home', but loving poker this summer.

I did 3 years at uni in Sheffield too a decade ago (lived in Broomhill and Crookes) and still try and get up there a couple of times per year. Shef is a top city that soon makes you realise just how rude everybody is to each other in the South. The price of booze and takeaway is just absurdly low too - good times.

GL with the mtts - the variance can be a bitch.

Just moved into my new house (well, Sunday), finally got the internet sorted today. Friend's birthday tonight, so no games tonight, but hopefully can put in a full schedule tomorrow and I have a WCOOP ticket which I won from the $5 FTR game on Sunday (so many thanks to FTR for that!) so I will probably put in a session then. Had to play that game on my phone HUD-less while traipsing round Sheffield seeing people, ordering food, smoking some shisha and wandering the streets from place to place!

Won't be able to play Saturday since my team Wycombe Wanderers have a game just up the road in Chesterfield which I must go to, since I won't see them much this season. Probably for the best, the way we're playing atm, but gotta enjoy the lows to experience those fantastic highs. Guess that masochistic edge I have helps in these damn MTTs. Also, the girlfriend finally gets back to this wonderful city on Saturday evening so I'll not pass up my first night back with her to sit staring at a screen into the wee hours.

Here's hoping tomorrow's session is a successful one followed by a nice WCOOP bink in the biggest tournament I've ever played online on Sunday!

So this has been a bit quiet for a couple weeks. It's been a very busy time and I've hardly played any poker except for my cash in the WCOOP.
Went to the PokerStars VIP party in London yesterday, met Pascal and a couple of other people. Somehow managed to bink myself one of the three UKIPT packages, a £770 tournament buy-in and £500 in expenses. So I'll be heading down to Bristol for my 23rd birthday weekend on November 8th and hopefully I'll have a big story to tell when I do!

Still haven't been playing as much as I'd want to be, but going to be playing a lot more 45s instead of big field MTTs so I can get in more volume even when I don't have a day to put aside to play.

In a bit of a downswing, running bad and probably not playing my A-Game, but I think I'm just a bit rusty. Looking forward to a nice weekend full of games!

I aint gonna lie, for your age you are a pretty impressive player. I have watched you take down a game or two on carbon. In other leagues you have dominated me in hands. And recently read that you are in a big time live event. I wish id of found poker in my teens instead of in my 40s about 2 years ago. Good luck on your poker journey,

The online poker world is a small place and the same names keep cropping up.

From what I have seen so far of your play it seems to me that you have got something and I have no doubt you will developinto a better player with a real shot at making some serious money. I look forward to following your adventures and wish you good luck on your journey. I agree with Dan about starting early. I only got to the game around 4 years ago and wish I had taken it up when I was younger.

Thanks for the kind words guys!
I'm currently sitting on a coach on my way to UKIPT Bristol to play the £770 main event. Will be playing Day 1b tomorrow and you can follow my progress on Twitter @johnjacobs1989
I'll be meeting up with Pascal and a few others so should be a good weekend, made even better if I make some £££

John's got 22k in the last level of the day, going into 300/600/75. Play finishes in 45 mins with ~half the 550 person field remaining then they'll go back tomorrow, making the money at the end of the day or so.

Finished day 1 with 20.2k going into 400/800/100 tomorrow I believe, also his birthday - happy birthday and gl tomorrow!

Go John go! They give bracelet, watch, or ring for win at UKIPT?

I have no idea, I'd have been content with the 90k tbh! But hey ho, twasnt to be this time. Played a nice big session yesterday but all my deep runs fell short of being good scores.
