Is this really the key topic for everyone on this forum right now. Grinding up from micros. I am glad everyone is trying to pull a ferguson and Martin Kl...... whatever that other guy's name is (went from freeroll to bracelet in 6 mths) but seriously, if this is all people are going to talk about maybe we should have a seperate forum section. I am now going to wish you luck also and hope that we all can do what ferguson did and turn a freeroll into thousands of dollars. Hopefully everyone from FTR is sitting at the world series this year at one final table or another. GL on the felt and see you there.

A lot going on. I have some grand plans for the coming year.
This time I will not reveal them prior to completion, since shit always seems to happen when I do.

Updates will be slow, maybe even a once a month thing or slower. Feel free to practice self-serving around here when I'm not around. My bar is always well stocked

Christmas of '06 I did not know that a flush beats a straight. In fact, I was not entirely sure what a flush was.



'08 was a rebuildaments year for me. For most of the year, I was like Voldemort in HP1 bankroll-wise. It was not until July that I could resume grinding from where I left off the year before.



A combination of real life bad beats, metaphorical 1-outers and running perfect cards and drawing-dead-aments on flop, almost had the best of me. But I gritted my teeth, and continued.



Yet out of the ashes, anew the phoenix emerges. Stronger, more powerful, wiser. More resistant.

I will try to make a run for Nova. At my current playing volume, I would be able to make nova at the 20+2's in under 8 months, which would be by august. I will keep on average 200BI, 225BI MAX online at all times, very strict BRM. Hopefully somewhere alng the way I will amas about 250K FPPS for the $4K bonus, 26K FPPS for an ipod, and 10K for an el cheapo Poker Chipset.

I will also try to eat well daily, and get up and excersice and run and so some yoga or whatever every day. I will try to keep late night runs (the figurative kind) at a minimal.

Well, that's it. Only making plans with things I can control (such as amount of VPPs earned). Poker-related updates in this blog will be purposefully slow and minimal because of my approach. My bar will remain open though. Free as always, anyone can serve and get served whatever they would want to feel good & comfortable, if at least for 1 second.



I need to make a few upgrades to my office environment but I will keep those on the pending list.

I can't remember having run this bad over any length of time. The past 2 sessions have been brutal. I have probably dropped more than 40 buyins at my current stakes. Good thing I have a very large bankroll, else I would have been busto a long time ago.

I'm afraid to look at my ROI which was well north of 25% the last few months, it must have dropped now to like single digits.

I even started wondering how many times AA and KK go around the table when shorthanded. It seems like every second hand a different donk gets them at every single fucking table wtf it seems like HU those are the only two fucking hands villains get goddamnit

So, I'm about 100K hands in, and my numbers look ok.
Save connectors:



Play more of them. But with the shallow stacks within SNGs, playing connectors is kind of like hemorrhaging chips in the long run. Maybe in big-buyin 200BB starting stack tournaments,THEN I'm playing more connectors, but for now, I'm happy with my game the way it is.

Maybe openraising more offsuit connectors and specific cbetting will do the trick? Or better yet; no coldcalling with suited connectors ever if its more than 5% of my stack.

On to the next 100K!

Some simple calculations.

To hit Nova, I have to get 10K VPPs in a month, on average, for 10 months. Then I am nova for at least until Feb. '10.

For every single 15+ 1 or 10+1 I play, I get the equivalent of 5 VPPs. So, in a month, I need to play 2K SNGs and maintain this pace to get Nova.

This translates to 80 in a day (25 day month), which 6-tabling translates to a little over 13 per table. at .5 hours average each, I have to grind about 7 hours each day.

This is why I have to increase my amount of played tables. But currently I need some hardware upgrades to do that.

If I double the amount of tables I play, and I think I could do this easily, it would take me a little less than 4 hours a day grinding. Of course, I have to assume I can maintain the same level of play 12-tabling that I can 6-tabling, but this would be no real problem except when headsup, but I tilt like a monkey if my computer slows down, so maybe the times I failed HU while 8-tabling were all hardware related and not my entire fault.

This is my eventual goal so for now, I will withdraw 1.9K to get me a fucking new laptop.

But, at a higher buyin, I may need a larger padding to withstand the swings, so I am shooting for 200BI minimum again. I currently have a little over 2K in my poker account, which means for now the goal should be:

1.9K + (200*16) = 5.1K, rounded up = 5.5K.

if I keep having days like this, it will not take long



Edit: make that 6K, so I buy a good pair of fucking noise isolation headphones.

average time for games i played in is about 30 minutes dead. you mean that every time you play you get to see 400/800/50 blinds? nitfest!

I think there is a miscommunication here.

Jack's numbers probably reflect the fact that you don't get to the end of every tournament that you play. So while the tourney may last 45 minutes, an aggressive player will average about half an hour per entry.

I too think its a miscommunication error here. 40-45 minutes is indicative of a SNG you are at least HU in if its a turbo, and probably 6-handed if you are playing a normal one.

I just looked at my numbers again, and on average it takes me 33 minutes per turbo.

The sad part is that there is nothing one can do about it. I had 2.8K in my stars account last friday, right now I have a little less than 2.1K.
