    Default Dwarfy's stuff, and junk

I went pro today. I'm gonna write down stuff here and stuff from time to time to keep me sane.

I'll write an introduction thingy tomorrow I guess.

Oh hi and thanks for the well-wishing.

Erm, hi. Basically I guess its no secret that I'm still really young - 18 to be precise. So yeah, I just finished my full time education once and for all, so I never have to go to school again. And erm I had a part time job while I was at school which I hated everything about, and paid very little - only about $350 per month, but it got me by.

So erm since I absolutely hated where I was working, I worked my last day on Sunday 1 June to play poker to get me by. I figure it is by far the best time and probably the only time I can try out going pro, since I think my risk of ruin is so low. I'm still dependent and living with my parents rent-free - my only major monthly expense is running a car, and I have the option of moving on to uni in October if this doesn't work out and getting another part time job there. This is, in my opinion, the absolute best time to give this a shot.

As for a poker story, its a LOL. Started playing in 2004 with some donkaments at Stars before it got massively popular with very limited success on a tiny BR. After a couple of stakes to enable me to play higher I was beating the 25NL at Party through 2005 when it was uber-fishy, and then I moved back to play some more MTTs at Stars, because that I was I loved doing.. again with limited success. Then after a 4 month stretch playing SnGs at Stars, in which I churned out a good ROI (this was when I made my SnG videos that some of you have), I quit poker cold turkey in March 2006 and didn't play again until mid-2007, with some LHE at Stars, where I ran nicely. In January 2008 I moved my money around to do some casino whoring and made about $1,000 doing that, the majority of which I cashed out to buy a PS3. Then in late March/April 2008 I started playing 25NL at Stars with a bankroll of exactly $600, which has so far gone well and today I find myself with a bankroll of $1,700 playing 50NL.

So, touch wood, I should be comfortably comfortably making over $350 a month, eclipsing my part time job, and I should be able to cashout to support myself while still building my bankroll, although I anticipate it to be a very long time before I move up to 100NL, but 50NL is perfect for me at the moment :P

    This is all.

How many tables you play? Putting that 50K in perspective.

    16. So 50k is a goal I expect to easily, easily, easily achieve. I'll probably end up doing more.

ya I play 12 and set a 75k goal in accounibility.

I do think you should sometimes play less. You will have trouble moving to 100nl and dealing with good 3betting regs if you don't concentrate on developing general hand reading. Hard to do that with more than 6 tables going. Though I play 12 table in a 100nl/200nl mix, I drop down to 6 tables often to concentrate on my game at least a few hrs a week. It helps growth a lot.

Wow I didn't realise you were so young!

You are free to do what you want and all, but giving up on Uni to go pro on a ~£850 bankroll may be something you regret.

If you go to uni you can still play plenty of poker; there are plenty of FTR types who have. You also get to meet girls, live it up and get something employers like.

    Anyway GL with everything.

Yah, maybe i mis-worded what I wrote. Something quite special has to happen to stop me going to uni in October. Essentially I am going to be playing poker full time until October when I go to uni - and then it will be my job on top of degree stuff... thats the plan.

It will be nice if I go robusto, but it will be just as nice if I am making enough to not have to get a job while in uni.

imo don't let poker cloud your judgement with school... school should be first 100% of the time....
then again if you start making 100k+ a year from poker then I guess w/e...
like im taking time off from school and uhh..... its so fuckin boring, i enjoyed it so much more being in school even though the school part sucked

    just an interesting fact...
urindanger and his brother (i dont know his name) both play the nosebleeds online (some of the best online players obv) etc, and they were making hundrends of thousands/mills while they were in college and still got their degrees in mechanical engineering

dno y that would be relevant or anything though ;D

still hope u go robusto ;p

I think you asked this question knowing that there is a very good chance that he hasn't completed university or a college degree by the age of 18.

Dwarfman, I hope you excel at poker this summer and plan to take up post-secondary sometime in the future. You have a lot of potential at this game.

    .
agreed, a great time to give this a shot

    two options I recommend :

    1) study at least part-time and support yourself with poker while you're studying - hell, there's a limit to how many hours a week you can play and studying a few papers at the same time will be fine. Reason is keeping your options open! Look at what people like spoonitnow are doing - making $$$ playing poker and getting set-up for another career if that's what they choose.

    2) play poker for a year fulltime. No studying. With the understanding that you plan to go study afterwards if it doesn't work or you get sick of it. You'll never get stuck looking back and wondering "what if?" Hell, loads of people do some sort of GAP-year getting drunk and getting laid in Oz or wherever - long-term a year off doesn't matter...

regardless of what you choose to do - all the best!

I've recently gone from full to part-time work. Part of the reason is that I want to investigate poker as an income stream. There are other things I'm also investigating along this line. Another reason is that I simply don't feel like working 40hrs a week at the moment, and decided not to travel for the moment. Career-wise it's exactly the same working part-time or full-time.

    edit: I just read this

    - sounds like the first of my two recommendations. I like your plan. Also - think about earnings...
50 000 hands running 5ptBB/100 gives $2500, add to that rakeback and there's another $500. That excludes any bonus-whoring you plan on doing. If you're not planning on doing some of that - then you should be...
e.g. for ten days run 5 tables of everest at the same time as 11 at your normal site and clear another $500 in bonus. Or whatever. I've got loads of suggestions - but you've probably read it elsewhere already.

Cheers for the advice daven, I've been considering bonus whoring over FPP grinding at Stars, haven't really decided as such yet.

So here's a random thought. I think the key to playing poker for a living (other than being profitable), is having little or no emotion whatsoever. That's all.

I'm going to set a few specific targets for July.

    Remind me.
  22. #22
    gl and all that.

just wanted to say - go to Uni regardless of how well pokers going. Uni was the best years of my life and I know all my mates would say the same. Everynight is a piss-up (bar the final year, when you may actually have to do some work), loads of girls living away from home for their first time , piss ups galore, you'll meet loads of mates, loads of football, piss up everynight (have I mentioned this?) - plus there will no doubt be a poker society, where a FTR vet like yourself would be a god.

All is good in the dwarfman camp.

But time for a mini-goal. I would please like to play 40,000 hands by Wednesday 23rd July. This is so I can have enough FPPs to buy £300 worth of Amazon vouchers so I can essentially get a free laptop delivered by next Friday

    I will update and shit.

Hello. Since my last post I've played 32,977 hands so I will easily reach my goal of 40k by Wednesday, happy times.

However, turns out my calculations suck and actually I needed 44k to make enough FPPs for the Amazon vouchers. Sad times

Still should hit 44k tomorrow, wheeeee.

    AUGUST

Basically, in August, I want to make $5,000 by playing this game of poker. Probably exclusively 50NL, combined with FPP rakeback etc.

Its going to take a lot of hands, but I have the time

100 buy-ins is a lot to make in a month though! although 100k hands is easily achievable, and 5bb/100 combining rakeback and table profits is possible. So i guess you can make it - i hope you do. Best of luck.
