I've been making some tweaks to my tourney approach, and have been thinking upon this:

In Sklansky's Tournament Poker for Advanced Players, he says: "You could play somewhat aggressively, or even wildly, early on in the hopes that it is noticed, and that this results in getting calls down the road that you might not have gotten when you have a big hand."

Other than the fact that this is a horribly long sentence, I'd like to see some thoughts on this approach.

I've been working on "zooming around" during the first level of tourneys when the blinds are small relative to stack size. I try to take small aggressive stabs at pots, but back off if I meet resistance. Too early to really assess any effect, will have to get a few more tourneys under my belt. As soon as level 2 hits, I revert to a more HOH type of play style.

One potential issue is if this strategy is applied in a very low limit tourney, your zooming is likely to be drowned out by all the raise/reraise/push/call/call/call action going on. Even if that is not the case, you have to assess whether your opponents are the type that will even notice your VPIP. Also a factor is how soon your table is likely to break up.

This is an idea, but to make it work you will need to have a couple solid players and a calling station picked out. Id search up the 'good' players and find out how many things they are doing, the more things means its less likely they will notice. Get the calling station alone and burn away a couple hundred chips with absolute junk, and show it. Do it again, maybe? Then youd have to open a pot againts a 'good' player and hope they they noticed and hope that you get a hand before the table breaks, which is what will happen alot in tourneys in the early going. Id advise just playing your normal game but maybe that would work.
