Would you ever call here?

This was an easy fold for me but I got to thinking, sometimes people do this move with air because they put you on KQ-AK and assume a missed flop. So there could be some situations where we are ahead with the Ace high.

No real reads on the villain as I wasn't at the table long but the hand prior to this one I had AKs in the CO and 3 bet it vs this same villain and he called - he showed down AQo (and won because he hit a Q on the turn giving him 2 pair). And prior to this I saw him play some really crappy hands in bad positions.

Raise bigger pre-flop because of stack sizes so you can just move in on him on the flop.

I did this this morning @ $200 NL and got my KTo unimproved shove called by K9o O.o

if you make it .70 preflop the SPR on the flop will be 2 which is enough to shove AK unexploitably
basically if he calls with any pair he's not going to have pair hands enough and you'll be EV+ based on fold equity alone... then you can also suck out with two overcards when he does hit the flop
if he calls with ace high as well you beat that

So by varying our PFR sizes based on stacks we can manipulate the SPR on the flop to make certain plays +EV where other times due to the SPR being unmanipulated and us making a standard raise we would actually create a -EV situation on the flop if we make the same play with a smaller PFR?

I don't know enough about this stuff and I need to learn, can someone recommend a book that goes over it in detail?

I agree. With AK you should pop it here and force out draws and any other hands. Plus with .10 blinds its not that expensive freeroll unless your roll is under $100

It's a pretty simple concept, but for some reason I always manage to screw up the explanation. Go out and buy Professional No Limit Hold'em. It will explain it all in great detail, along with quite a few other important beginner concepts.
