Obviously not the only reason, but it's certainly one of them. Because limping only weak hands is extremely exploitable players attempt to mix up their play by limping hands like AJ. This turns a potential profitable pfr and c bet opportunity into marginal spot multi way. As bad as this is, it is advocated in the Harrington on Cash Games series. Although that is a FR cash game series i' m pretty sure it's still bad.
HoC is worse than limping.
