There are many situations when I will do this. As a beginner I wouldn't do this as you are VERY likely calling with a worse hand and you won't be able to turn a profit with them.
Calling raises with worse hands is situational. For me it's maybe once every 3 orbits and maybe 1 out of 6 I win. The other times I get out quickly.
Situations where I *may* call raises with a worse hand (all require position on the PFRer):
Positional play against this opponent/these opponents will likely allow me to win this hand.
Family pot, good implied odds, good family pot hand (SCs, etc).
Implied odds are good against this opponent because he takes his hands too far.
