Where to sit relative to player types

I've heard some conflicting advice about this and want to see what most people think:

Where do you want to sit at a table relative to some of the usual poker player types? Specifically with the common styles seen at lots of low-limit tables: Maniacs (super loose-aggressive), Mice (tight-passive), Fishes (loose-passive), and Sharks (solid, tight-aggressive). So ideally, if you had your way and could join a table with one/some/all of these types playing, would you want to sit to their left or right ... and why? Thanks!

(Btw, I'm mostly a low-stakes Limit Hold'em player, but I don't think that matter much.)

Ideally you want nits on your left and maniacs on your right. Its best to have fish on your right, but not that bad to have them on your left. If a good shark was on my left I'd probably leave, but most TAGs dont really qualify as this.

nits on the left - steal their blinds
maniacs on your right - position on the donators
taggs on your right/across the table - position and as far as possible from you so you guys dont tango too much (since its not profitable for either)

In addition, if you're stuck with shortstacks on the table, ideally you'd want them to be on your right too. If there are 2 open seats right next to each other, you'd usually want to pick the one on the left.

No, shorty's on the left. Money flows around the table to the left and your position gives you an advantage to people on your right. Why would you want to have a positional advantage on people that you already have a mental advantage over. Shortys cannot play 'poker" and there is no such thing as a positional advantage. The very fact that they have no chips means your playing less streets and position means nothing.

And when there are two empty seats I always take the one on the right, because if I am sitting there is obviously someone on my right I feel comfortable with as a donator, why would I want someone to get a better position on said fishy by sitting between us?

have position on the bad players who plays lots of pots
let the players who play the least pots have position on you

Shorties on the right because they're more likely to shove. Having them to the left handcuffs you and makes you play nitty.

As for picking seats on the left, it sucks when you sit down on the seat on the right, then some loose player sits down to your left. Sitting 2 to the left of a fish isn't that bad.

it depends on what kind of shorty
the guy that limps and calls raises and then calls the flop with anything you'd like to have on your right

the shorty that shoves preflop every ~10 hands you'd like to have off your table

...you mean except for sharks (tight but good, aggressive players), who you'd want on the right, no?

no, I'd like them to be off my table or as far away as possible from me

You'd probably prefer those players be a few seats away either side. Too many soft targets to put up with difficult ones next to you.

exactly, why would I want someone who's going to steal my blinds with a wide range, adjust to my 3bing with aggressive 4bing and will felt lighter when I start shipping it in on him when I can sit at a table with fish on my right or bad tight aggressives that won't adjust (either won't steal wide or will fold to 3bs too often)
