Default when your sick and tired

well im going through another down swing and i dont know how to get myself out of it. Last time i just quit but wow is it not pleasent to go through. What does everyone do on here when they go through the down swings, and i dont mean cold cards i mean when you psychologically cant do it either? It happends every now and then but i need some kind of trick or somthing to get me out of this.

I know EXACTLY what you mean, like suddenly you just kinda suck at poker? That was this last weekend in a nutshell for me.

Uh...I dunno what to say, really? Play madden? Do something that isn't poker?

uh yeah...just don't blow your week's winnings liek I did.

it cant hurt to put your playing on hold for a short while, maybe spend a few nights doing something else.
I have never experienced a really bad downswing to the point where I'm worried about my bankroll, but there have been plenty of unpleasant ones for sure. Most of the time it takes a clear head that only a day or two will give you.

I went COLD about a month ago. I couldn't win to save my life. I took two weeks off, read some NON-POKER books, spent some time with friends, revisited some old hobbies, and came back. It was very therapeutic for me and did wonders for my game.

take time off. i got into a downswing one time, after getting busted a couple times, i started misplaying my AK/AQ type hands, and i find playing those hands incorrectly leads to big mistakes. then i got impatient.

i took a week off. came back, all better.
i betcha that i got something you ain't got, that's called courage, it don't come from no liquor bottle, it ain't scotch

I've had two really cold spells in the last 6-8 months. Fortune 500's advice is exactly what I do: take time off, read non-poker books, do other things, etc. 2-3 weeks is usually enough. Don't cheat after 3 days either. LOL.

    himself fucker.
I took a week off. Tried to do as little poker related stuff as possible.

When I came back, I was thinking a lot sharper and clearer.

I have been cold lately - thought I was just playing to clear a bonus, and I ended up ripping through the bonus and part of my bankroll as well. Yesterday afternoon after having the second best hand three times in an hour, I decided it was time for a break. So as of this morning, I'm cashed out at Party Poker, and am done playing online for at least a week. But it's more likely I'm taking a longer break - I'm buying a house next month so it makes sense to just get busy with that (closing the deal, then painting and moving) and not worry about poker for a while. I'll still play my usual home games, but no more online. Once the break is up I'm sure I'll be feeling better about things.

Incidentally, if you don't play any home games or other "real" games, you should think about finding some. For me, playing less often, for less money, and with guys I know inside & out is a sure money-maker. I almost never lose at these games unless I just suffer a horrendous beat for my whole stack or something.

ya it's tough grinding out say, $50 from NL games over a few days, then losing a large portion of it terrible players making terrible calls.

    I had a $180 br Feb 23rd, now it's Mar. 9th and im down to $100

I despise the micro limits. When people see raises, they call as an opportunity to get lucky and bad beat someone.
