At what point to you stop chalking it up to "running ba

I've been in a horrible break-even rut recently where I feel I should be winning substantially (obviously I feel that way, I know Iknow).
But I mean in both SnGs, and Cash games. I have been playing big pots with people who overvalue their hands and can't get away from marginal ones. Getting them all in with literally 3-6 outs and losing an overwhelming portion of the time.

I don't have any HH, but I mean things like AK vs A10 with an ace on the flop then all in after the flop.

KK vs. j8 all in on a flop of 789. ( i know my hand is not invincible here, but I mean variations of this situation repeatedly I should win mostly right?)

My latest one, I re-raise bluff a guy out of a pot and show him. Shortly after he raises a pot with me again. And I reraise with top pair, knowing he'll put me on a bluff again. To my delight he goes all in with bottom pair. I have q10, he has 63 and the board is 3810. He rivers the 6.

I have lost SOOOO many of these type of dominating hands recently. For like the past 2 weeks straight, and that is no exageration. They are big pots, where I get all in in a dominating situation. I've been trying to tell myself they only have 3-6 outs, and I made the right play. But is it? Do "bad cards" really last this long? OR is my tactic of playing big pots with predictable opponents weak because I'm gambling such a large portion of my stack at once?

If your gettin all your chips in when you have the best of it, there is nothing more you can do. If you never make mistakes and get all your chips in when your ahead you will most definately be a winning player....

Luck will even out, and things will start rolling your way again, just dont let a bad run put you on tilt and have you make bad decisions.

you definately can't let plays like this get you down. while it does suck that you have experienced such an unlucky streak, odds are odds, so the numbers will eventually even out. i know for myself last night, i min-raised AA, and another guy went AI with QQ, of course i called, but he caught his set and i lost 50$. Five minutes later, against the same guy, i hold 22, him AJ. flop comes JJ2. Let's just say that i got my money, and a lot more back (85$ in all). I could've let my bad beat drive anxiousness into my great flop, but I stayed cool and slowplayed it and made a fool out of the guy. There will also be times your luck will turn completely around, and you won't lose any hands it seems like. Just remember, being successful in poker is all about handling the hands between our big winners. I shoot to play even between my big winning hands. This allows me not to put too much pressure on myself.

That was a 10 person tourney. I ended up winning... but I mean seriously I had her double up like 4 times when she was dominated. And over the past couple of weeks this type of shit has been knocking me out of tournies. Its SOOOOOO frustrating.

Whats the longest run of bad cards you ever had?

dwelling on bad beats will only compound your bad beats and lower your level of play.....

Bad beats are like paying the bills....your making money, but rent is due every once in awhile. Just take it for what it is and keep playing your game.

Hrm... Longest run of bad cards... probably this past 2 weeks. Dropped my bankroll from $530 to $200.

Here is some advice for you. Take a break from poker. Do something else for a week and then come back to it. It seriously works. Its good for you and your game.

I have often wondered how much of “bad runs” are luck and how much is poor playing chalked up to bad luck. I don’t have enough experience in poker to say either way but I have to think sometimes people are just deluding themselves. I am not saying that is the case here…just talking in general. Since that is my belief, any time I think things are not going well I go back to the basics and examine my assumptions and my game. I look at it this way. Perhaps it is bad luck. If that is the case then examining my game won’t hurt anything. If it is really a problem with my game then I may find it and solve it to put me back on course.

You're playing a high variance style. You're plan is to drop the hammer while you're ahead. You'll win money. You'll also have long bad streaks once in a while like this. This is what your style asks for and is rewarded with. The results are a product of the technique.

As long as you have the bankrol to support this swing and you claim to be breaking even you really have nothing to complain about... this is a strategy forum last time i checked.
