    Default what are the odds?

    Dear fellow punters:

I've been playing texan on and off for about a month and recently joined online poker to improve my skills. I once encountered players discussing in chat room about odds of hitting an open ended straight or something....sounds interesting.. where can i find these odds...is there a book or an online site kindly posted>? Thanks.

right here on good ole FTR my friend. study, memorize, and use this chart. IMHO, it's the best way to give your game a quick boost. also, read the article covering this chart, it will change the way you look at the game.

t now seems like i see 1 flop in maybe 10+ hands....waiting for strong hands...and hence predictable and tight. and when i did get an AKo with TPTK on flop i got smashed by low pockets (yes i know typical example)

Is this what discipline is all about and beginners should start off by justing playing the good cards and be tight?

    Also...

are there charts that state the odds of hitting a flush (135?) or straight on the flop....

so should i fold pre-flop with all connectors, suited and suited connectors if they are low? I understand that these cards often are second best...a few times i've hit the flush (suited hole) only to be beat by someone with a higher flush...=( ... i was cut but coped... i'm no mathemagenius but what are the odds of someone else holding suited hole cards when you do?

So here's my dilemma, as a beginner should i play tightarse or at least give it a go with weak cards if i feel that the situation is playable....

    thanks for your opinions...

i've been dealt AA twice in about 30 hands...(wow) i play on 0.05/0.10 tables.... the first time i raised 50c and only 1 called but left on the flop when i raised another 50c... there was nothing on the flop....

the second time i had AA i raised 20c.. about 3 called and an ace flopped...i think i raised 10c and everyone folded.....

    very deflating....

i think ppl know i'm too tight...how can i change?

I am a fairly new player as well and am trying to memorize the odds chart to help me make good decisions in my game. An oldtimer once told me of a easy way to figure out the approximate odds, so i will share it with you. The advanced players most likely dont like it but for beginners it is pretty good i think.

Odds on the turn - # of outs x 4
Odds on the river - # of outs x 2

    Regards
    Dale
