Default What are the key differences between Ring and Tourney?

I know a few people have made similar posts. But I'd just like to know what the key/basic differences between cash and tourney are and why you can suck at cash and be incredible at tourneys or vise-versa.

at the end of the day it's the same game, so why the huge difference?

    thanks

In ring the blinds never increase, and postflop play becomes alot more important than preflop play. Tourneys are more focused on preflop play, tournament strategy, M and the like

i think at very low stakes its hard to SUCK at both. Tourney play is about getting to the bubble then being agressive. Cash play is more about patience whereas tourney play is more about aggression (once youre at the bubble) but there isnt qa massivr difference at verfy low stakes.

do a search for posts identical to yours. they're all over. they're in the mtt forum, the holdem strats forum, probably the sng forum. you'd probably find more in this one too.

this question gets asked so often that i should make a sticky about it. i'll do it after my exams are over. remind me if i forget

Tournaments you're after your opponent's stack.
Cash games you're after his roll.

You learn to fold hands in ring and extract the most money when you have a monster. In a donkament it is rare to have more than 25 bbs late and even if you do, there are always shorties at your table. Being 100 bbs+ deep, you learn how to play the turn and river because these 2 streets are almost non-existant in a tournament.

These are just a few differences; read Renton's guide if you haven't already - it really explains in detail some situations you will come into on ring and how to play them.

thats were your thinking is flawed, its a differrent game with some similar rules.
100 meter dash and marathon are both running, but you can't compare them.

Your goals are different, in a cash game you want to maximize your winning for each specific hand, as you are free to leave whenever yu want.
In a tournament your goal is to come ITM, the results of any specific hands is just the means to the goal
