Default what do you do when you get three of a kind on the flop?

From my earlier Tilt which i'm kinda off of now. I got three of a kind on the flop i think easily 5x today. Was I right to Milk them? or should I have betting REALLY over my head to get them out and take what I can get. I bet either the pot or a little more and got callers and then they ended up getting a st8 on the turn and/or the river.. Thanks!

Sounds like you're doing OK to me. The odds of completing an OESD (4.9:1) or a four-to-a-flush draw (4:1) on the turn are much less than 2:1 that is offered by your pot-sized bet. However, a lot of your opponents will incorrectly calculate their odds based on two cards to come and think they are getting 2:1 pot odds on a 1.85:1 proposition (of completing their flush). If you don't want to get drawn out on, overbet the pot, and that will discourage more players to chase you.

Notice also that their odds are further reduced by the possibility that you fill up your set and make a full house. If you hold a pocket pair and have hit a set, you'll typically have 7 outs on the turn and 10 outs on the river to make a full house or quads.

The only catch is implied odds. Namely, can you get off your set if your opponent's draw appears to be made? I can usually only do this if the board contains four of a suit or four to a straight.

With all due respect, Ripp, someone hitting a four-outer against you is no reason for a set to fear a paired board.

Rounders aside, perhaps the best thing that can happen for a set is for the flush draw to complete with a card that pairs the board.

That's what I'm always hoping for whenever I make a set, seeing there magic card appear helps them forget that a FH could be out there.

Ripp, it's the same thing. He hit a four outer against you.

Small sets do have the disadvantage of being vulnerable to bigger boats on paired boards, but you're usually a 4:1 favorite. You were in both those cases. It's really only a serious disadvantage when the other guy has a set, in which case he's taking your stack anyway.

Jump up and do a little dance.

    (unless it's a live game).
