Default What did I do Wrong?

This is my first time playing at this specific table (in person, not online). Buy-in is $100, game is $1/2 NL.

I call to see the flop with KJ suited. flop is J low low. I check in first position thinking im ahead of everybody.

    Person A checks.

    Person B raises 15.

    I consider and reraise 15.

Person A goes all in for 13 on top.

Person B thinks hard and folds.

I call because I feel I am pot committed at this point (a reason I never want to call for...)

person A unconfidently shows pocket kings while person B admits he had JQ.

I river the 1 out that I still have....the jack. giving me trips to his overpair.

It was a very crappy win and I dismiss anything else that happened in the night because my chip stack would have been decimated had person A rightfully won.

I made the right read that I was ahead in kickers to the jack, but how am I supposed to read pocket Ks when the person himself was extremely unconfident about them. He checked after me not because he was checking a monster, but because he didnt want to bet without a set.

How am I supposed to play against this type of person? Just wait for dominating cards?

    Did person A raise preflop?

If not, its his own fault that he lost. If he had put a decent raise in then on his all in, you could have put him on AA KK or such and laid it down. He slow played pre and post flop, thats just asking to get drawn out IMO.

Even still, a push-check reraise after a bet and raise should indicate alot of strength and not a bluff outside of any info on how he plays. Personally, I would probably have put him on hitting a low set the way he played it, and laid it down after his push. Its still not a horrible call based on the money in the pot

He called a raise to $4 preflop....the MINIMUM raise.

    Sorry, thought I included that.

I think the only reason he went all-in was because he didnt want to work with just 13 dollars if he lost.

Coincidentally he lost $600 in 3 and a half hours (but I still admit this was a hand I did not want to win).

and in that, we differ . I like to play good poker, when I am ahead of the correct people with the correct reads. I dont want to river somebody with one out. That dosnt make me feel good about my game or increase my abilities at all.

Would I have preferred winning to losing, of course....but not with a win like that.

especially condsidering the people who complain the most, tend to brag about what great plays they made, when they suck out on you.

Journey, even though you maybe got lucky, I still think the guy made mistakes, and you shouldn't feel at all guilty. If nothing else, not reloading with $13 at a $100 buy-in table is just asking to be outdrawn.

I just cant believe you said this

(but I still admit this was a hand I did not want to win).
You're disappointed that he didnt do something different?

He called a raise to $4 preflop....the MINIMUM raise.
And people complain about suckouts. HAHAHA

Coincidentally he lost $600 in 3 and a half hours
Who cares that you sucked out on him...HE LET YOU!!! Just like he probably let everyone else[/quote]
Superb play sir...I always call 20% of my stack off with a gutshot draw. Excuse me while I race for my wallet.

It sounds to me like Person A was trying to trap with his pocket Kings preflop and on his check at the flop and then got outdrawn. It is going to happen 1 time in 8, and this was his turn.

I have to say, though, that pot-committed or not, I'd be squirming at his re-raise when all I have is TPGK. His check raise screams "overpair" or "set" in that situation.

I get sucked out on often - even when I bet correctly. I rarely get a chance to do it to somebody else if they are betting correctly. The times I do, it's because they didn't force me out of the hand. When it happens, it's just part of the game. It sucks but it happens routinely. I never feel bad when I get to do it because I'll never ever get back to break even on suckouts.

i always say "sorry it was you, glad it was me." Then i remember a hand where i got sucked out on and think hey it all evens out.

Ultimate suckout layed down on me tonight...

    Pre Flop
    Me:AhJs raise 8(4xBB)
Player 2: (Super loose aggressive) calls

    Flop
    Ad-4h-6c

    Player 2: Bet 6
    Me: all in 50
Player 2: immediate call and flips over Khqc

    Turn Qs
    River Qh

lost when i was 96.5% to 3.5% to win

Also lost later on Aks to ATs to a river T when i pushed all in over the top of him preflop.

both these times was pissed off cause i made good reads on my opponents and they made horrible calls and outdrew me without even mumbling an insincere apology. (These are friends im playing with)

I still rebounded to double my buy in

Nobody cares about my boohoo bad beat story... but i had to post now that we are talking about suckouts.

Anyway, moral of the story is just think about when you've done the opposite. if you get sucked out think about all the enormous suckouts you've given other people, and when you suck out on somebody and feel bad, remember you're just getting even for all the suck outs you've had.
