This is my first time playing at this specific table (in person, not online). Buy-in is $100, game is $1/2 NL.

I call to see the flop with KJ suited. flop is J low low. I check in first position thinking im ahead of everybody.

Person A checks.

Person B raises 15.

I consider and reraise 15.

Person A goes all in for 13 on top.

Person B thinks hard and folds.

I call because I feel I am pot committed at this point (a reason I never want to call for...)

person A unconfidently shows pocket kings while person B admits he had JQ.

I river the 1 out that I still have....the jack. giving me trips to his overpair.

It was a very crappy win and I dismiss anything else that happened in the night because my chip stack would have been decimated had person A rightfully won.

I made the right read that I was ahead in kickers to the jack, but how am I supposed to read pocket Ks when the person himself was extremely unconfident about them. He checked after me not because he was checking a monster, but because he didnt want to bet without a set.

How am I supposed to play against this type of person? Just wait for dominating cards?
