Default What am I missing here?

My current br ~$1125 and I feel like I'm learning more and more about 6max NL everyday. I am a bit of a BR nit and b/c this BR is my last shot at poker I have yet to move up to $50NL. Running 5ptbb/100 is all well and good at $25NL but I am really not accumulating any bonus or rb. Every 1k hands I might accumulate $12-15 in bonus+rb.

So here is my question: why shouldn't I shortstack to 75bb stack $50NL? The bonus clears twice as quickly there as well as I gain more rakeback. UB points also clear twice as quickly meaning I'll have more for the weekly UB points promo. It would take 20k hands to make $150/wk in the promo at $25nl but only 10k (manageable) at $50nl.

I might lose a bit of postflop skills but at least I'll be up a level learning more about how the players play at that level. Once I get my roll to $1500 I fully intend to buy in full at $50nl.

So what am I missing? Sounds too good to be true.

you might as well just buy in for the full amount, its not that much more and you have a big enough bankroll. and all the advantages you listed sound good. if you really want to be a bankroll pussy then i guess playing with a 75bb stack would be ok, it just doesnt make that much sense... its only like 12 more dollars isnt it?

That's exactly what I do (Make that did in a week's time). I found it helpful to get used to the people who have some kind of clue (nobody had a clue at 20NL, you see), and it gave me a feel for who the regs were, and I ran shitty for a bit and didn't lose much money. I reckon that despite the stigma attacked to buying in for anything less than full, it's an ok practise.

Buy in full, play two tables. I bet by 1K hands your 4 tabling and winning.

Whenever I move up, I usually just buy in full. It never really occured to me to buy in half. I think if you are comfortable playing with 100BB, you shouldn't through yourself off your game by playing with a smaller stack. The logical reason I could see for buying in short would be if you're playing scared. Like if losing $50 in one hand makes you weezy, buying in for less is alright I guess.

IMO, you should just play with whatever feels most comfortable. You are in no danger of going busto, and if you drop a couple buyins, so what. You know you can handily beat 25NL, so I recommend you give it a real shot.

TJ, this doesn't do anything for me at all.

Edit: not your advice, but 2tabling $50 clears the same as me 4tabling $25

    I'm just a nit

    **sigh**

I just need to use logic in allowing myself to move up. Say I move up and drop 4buyins. That puts my roll at about $900 dollars, which would still be 36 buyins for my current level. I think I'll take a shot this weekend. I'll probably play another $25nl session tonight and then play $50 full-stacked this weekend.

One thing I suggest. Don't open $50NL tables until you've played some hands at $25NL. Make sure you feel on and are playing well. And yes, losing a couple buy ins leaves you still well rolled for $25NL. And when/if you do drop down again, wait till you see how much easier it gets.
