What am I doing wrong or is this just the game?

Default What am I doing wrong or is this just the game?

For some time I have tried to win a seat to Partypokers One million guaranteed tourn. I have done this through rebuy satelites and I have tried to draw conclusions from game to game. Yesterday I thought I played a real controlled, tight and aggressive game, but unfortunatley it didn't help me. I ended number 41.

    This happend:
    Blind 600/300 ante:50 (as I remember it)
    My stack 43000
    Avg stacksize 33000

From late position I get two ladies. From early position a guy that has played somewhat loose and has the same size of stack as I have raises on BB. The person after calles with a low stack (about 8000). I raise to about 7000. The others call.
    Flop: 3 7 J (rainbow)
    The other players check - I go all-in (*).
The big stack calls and so does the small stack.
    Turn: J
    Flop: A

They both has Ax where x was 9 resp. 8 (for the small stack).

My question here is: Should I have been less aggressive here and raised to, lets say 16K? (My answer is still probably no due to I don't want to give them pot odds, plus I know I am favorite - or at least am very shore)

Lets see... You sucked 2 players all in against you when you had the best hand...

    whats not to like?

You got all the chips in the pot with the best hand. Sure, feels like crap to lose the hand, but you were a huge favorite so in the long run, you will come out way ahead. Keep your head up knowing you made the right move...and making the right move doesn't always mean you get the right results. But you will more often than not.

Can I ask you a slightly personal question? If you DO get into the PP Million, do you believe you have the skill to get deep or do you just fancy a shot at the big time without any real expectation? If it's the latter why not reduce your requirements and play lower buyins for less prestigious tourneys?

Good question biondino. I´m working on the skill, but I want to experience it (PP million) to learn. Probably I will continue with smaller MTTs after that. Besides, I think the rebuy tourn gives me a lot of practice.

Have you done the PP Million? Any hints?

Keep in mind, that the best player in the world is going to lose the millions something like 999 time out of 1,000.

also, When reviewing hands, never look at the results to decide if you played it correctly.... Your rarely a 100% favorite... 70%? sure... 60%? often... 100%? almost never.... and if your not a 100% favorite, then they should win some of the times, and that has nothing to do with how well you played it.

This is a very good post.

I know it's hard for people to read bad beat posts, and it's easy to be a jerk and post links to the bad beats forum, but I want to just remind everyone that this is the beginners forum. Some people honestly don't know if they're posting bad beats and they need to be told. When I first started playing, I posted a bad beat and got destroyed by gabe and wildbob Back then I didn't know I was posting a bad beat, and it would have been nice if people had told me nicely rather than tell me what an idiot I was.

That being said, people who post multiple bad beats can go to hell ...
