Just wanted some critique, was this a justified raise of his preflop call? I thought he was trying to steal my blind as he was the past few hands... I thought wth, I'll call and see what happens. In retrospect, I guess I should not have done this? Seeing as 56os is nothing to defend a blind with.

Agreed he should just say nh instead of going b3r$3rk?

    BTW, finished 2nd!

    Fold pre-flop. Fail that raise.

Post-flop, meh. Sore loser. He really shouldn't tap the aquarium and you have nothing to prove and more to gain by looking stupid.
  3. #3
i think you played fine...but usually blind defense is to reraise them preflop, but i guess 56 is a little too weak for that.

    funny conversation tho.

Preflop was a fold. If you don't flop big, you'll have a lot of work to justify that call. And he's only 81ish percent favorite.

I think the preflop call was questionable but the stacks were pretty deep so it wasn't as bad as it could have been. You flopped the goods and he was stupid enough to pay you off. He got owned by his ego and a starting hand chart. He made one of the fishiest plays I've seen for quite a while. Sure he was a huge favourite preflop but the majority of the money went in post flop. I woulda been so embarrassed if I had been him I woulda left immediately. His ranting just proves he doesn't understand the game.

EDIT: The preflop call was bad. I looked at it again. But he was the one making the biggest mistake anyway.

i think calling preflop was questionable...and i wouldn't recommend doing this all the time. but once in a while is fine, and since it's headsup if you flop trips, 2 pair, oesd, you're usually good.

the other guy was an idiot tho, he bet strong on the flop, and you raised him bigger. when people reraise a big bet like that it's more often not a bluff. QQ, KK, AA all dominate him.

The flop was pure gold....rainbow flop with the nut straight.

The following comments are simply priceless

I love how the players that LOSE hands like this accuse the other player of being a 'fish', 'stupid' and an 'idiot'. The guy didn't even have his odds correct.

This is another example why to step outside the box when the call is affordable.

A couple of weeks ago I called what I thought was a blind steal 5X raise from the s/b when I was on the b/b....I had 7/3os and caught a 3 with a rag flop no faces....The guy punches all in and I go into the tank and call him....He shows A/K and misses on the turn and river and proceeds to tell me what a loser I am and how stupid I was for making the call pre flop.

Moments like that are why I play poker
I totally disagree with this Ripptyde. If he suspects a steal he should re-raise or fold imo. Why call if he thinks he is in stealing mode? He can't beat most "steal hands" with that hand preflop. If he thinks the other guy has a high pair he can call and hope to hit two pair or better on the flop. Then he will get paid off if the other player is not able to fold his over pair, which he shouldn't do with that board unless he faces a huge re-raise on the flop and even then many players wouldn't fold.

Now if that guy would have attempted to steal, do u see him paying off that nice fine straight Triptane flopped? I don't. Unless he's a total fish.

It's Triptanes!!!!!!!!! Not Tritane or Tritanes or Triptane!

Thank You All For The Feedback.

I suspected a steal, and called his raise feeling sorta commited with those huge blinds (I seriously considered folding). I would have reraised if I had a better hand. I thought he had high cards, so I'd see the flop. The flop was 9r347 for me, and when i raised I would not have gone over the top if I was Solaris. Either call or fold and give me some respect (put me on A5 at le ast, or trips?) as my table image was tight agressive (hahaha I expect people on an Empire Freeroll to pay attention to table image), as I had not been showing down garbage.

    Thanks again,

    TRIPTANES

Well Triptanes, did I get it right? :P If you suspected a steal you played wrong imo. Your hand couldn't beat the median steal hand. You got real lucky and flopped a straight. You must expect your opponent to pay you off when you flop such a hand or you can just lay it preflop.

But ripptyde, if he played it that way, he has conflicting reads. If its a blind steal he reads a weak hand and should re-raise him off, but if he reads jacks it's not a blind steal and should fold preflop becuase he's behind.

Even if his read was right on the money (JJ) the stacks are only 17 and 20BB which hardly justifies trying to play catch-up post flop (unless you also count flops where you can "rep the ace" which would be difficult becuase you limp-called preflop.)

With this...I totally agree. Just that you said that if you expect he's on a steal this play was right is a completely different thing imo. If the guy is a player who only raises good hands then a call could be justified if he's the type paying off better hands and falls in love with his JJ-AA.

If he's a guy who bluffs and steals a great deal a raise/fold is better. Then you should be pretty certain that he's holding the goods if he re-raises or at least you won't any longer have the implied odds to see a flop especially since he won't pay you off anyway since he only attempted to bluff at the pot.

Assuming the guy had a hand like A/K. A/Q, K/Q etc then he is looking for a rag flop with no paint and to catch a piece of the flop
Which is what I object to. If he really thinks the guy is stealing then a reraise or a fold are the only two moves imo. If he thinks he's on a high pair calling might be right since he expects to get payed off the few moments he really hits.

I think the call is a mistake - because the raiser out stacks you. I could see re-raising preflop, but only if you are prepared to push. I mean, sometimes people in blindstealing position get a hand.
  17. #17
I don't like the call preflop... but that's strictly by the numbers, there. Maybe we should just give triptanes credit for a gutsy play that worked out. You make that call 10 times, and you're going to probably lose 8 of them, but let's give him some credit for his reads.

Here's why I would assume that it was a blind steal... Triptanes completed the blind. Everyone else had folded, and then Solaris comes over the top. This is a stupid play with a high pocket pair. You want to take someone along for the ride so you can get paid off if you hit a hand. Why not just check there? If you chase off your only caller, you have nothing to show for a high pocket pair but one big blind. That's nothing.

I'd smell steal all the way. Sure, 56o is a little weak to call with here, but I can't argue with the logic, and it worked out.

I think its safe to say your not going to get a Christmas card from this guy.

I would have suspected blind steal as well, and if you hit he is most likely going to put you on this hand and end up winning alot of money or chips(like you did).

    but what do i know

No commentary on the play, but on the conversation afterward, I think Ultimate George had it right in his blog: "Stay the fuck away from the chatbox."

There's no reason whatsoever to prove yourself to those people. Let them think you're a total fish so you can keep taking their money.
