Was this call ok?

.05/.10 NL at absolute. Both me and villain have about $20. I get KK in the SB, villain raises from the button to .30, so i reraise to 1.00, he calls

Flop comes QJx, all diamonds. (I have K diamonds) I bet 1.75, he calls.
Turn comes 9 not diamond. I bet 3.75, he pushes. I called.

My reasoning was as follows:
If he has the nut flush, I am dead (not likely given how it was played). If he has the str8, I still have 9 outs for the flush. If the 9 gave him a set, I have 14 outs to win (gutshot, KK, flush). If that was his 2nd pair, I have 20 outs (14 from above + 6 that can pair the board to give me a better 2 pr.) And if he's a complete dumbass and has a Q or a J or an under pair then I am way in front (which is quite likely given that this is .05/.10). I guessed that it was either the set of 9's or the 2 pr, figuring I made a marginaly good call. I was wondering if anyone else would call in this situation (assuming you put him on either 2 pr or a set)?

If i am assuming that he has 2 pair or a set then I can't tell you to call, do you see why?

just add the hand mechanics up, he called a flop bet, and pushes to your turn bet after a 9 comes. Why was that 9 helpful? did he flop a flush? set? 2 pair? hit the straight on the turn?

to beat no limit you need motives for people actions, it sounds like you called while behind in the hand, and rivered the flush, is that what happened?

Its not really important what happened, but if you must know I did not river a flush. The more I think about it, it was a bad call. I guess the huge bet on a scary board when I had shown strength just threw me. Although, if you assume 2 pr instead of a set, was it still a bad call, or were the odds there for the call?? I think I am about 40% to hit a card that wins it with 20 outs, and its about $13 more to call into a fairly large pot at this point (~$22 pot).

hmm. this is actually a little tougher than i thought, i didn't realize your pot odds were so close to 2:1. I would say this is a borderline call, making the call isn't bad, i'm probably still folding it though.

This is a bad call because you knew you were most likely behind. I'm not gonna go so far as to say you got married to kings. You did have some outs. This is a classic calling station play you made however. Making calls based on pot odds is a dangerous proposition. Not because it's -EV, but more because if you're not careful you start bending the rules a bit. You want them at least slightly in your favor. If you find yourself making calls when the odds are only slightly out of favor, then you will begin to slightly lose a couple BB per hour.

The closer you dance to the edge of the pot odds equation, the higher your variance will be. That's math buddy.
