limp in late position with A LOT more stuff. anytime someone ahead of you jumps in pre-slop (slop at lower levels...lol), limp in behind them. you will learn what will play and what wont soon enough. it only costs you .10, and if you dont take much past the flop, the donkeys at 10NL will pay you of when you can beat TPTK.
watch WHO you can limp with, and who you need to be raising out of pots, too. bion (believe-it-or-not), there are some regulars down there that do think. sure, they are not as frequent as higher limits, but they are there.
limpable hands at 10NL would be...T7s, any AXs, any KXs, 89o...and everything better. DONT LIMP THEM ALL, AND DONT LIMP THEM EVERYTIME YOU GET DEALT ONE...BE SELECTIVE. i also limp AJ and KQ sometimes to show them they cannot assume i have trash when i limp. but i also bring T7s in for a raise on the button occasionally, too, for the opposite effect.
my game has opened up tremendoulsy at 10, where i run at 22/8/3 full ring, and 25/8/1.5 sh. win rates are solid at 13 and 12, respectively over 14k and 9k hands now. and whats worse, i am opening up more and more as we speak, but i am, like you, very tight by nature...so, i am not afraid to dump hands to aggression when i have some stoopid holding that "looks good" on the flop...like 87s that hits TP, and i get raised. just get out of that hand, no need to protect anything in a .40 pot, even if it is TP. too many limp 99/TT or hit their overs by the river that they never had any intention of folding.
good luck
