variance
okay guys--
You guys talk about variance being higher in limit poker than in no limit. Would someone explain why that is? In my mind, I would think your variance would be higher in no limit due to the fact that more money can be in play at one time (and it can cost more of your money to play), whereas your losses can be controlled in limit poker just by the capped bet sizes.
Is it because in limit, more people chase due to pot odds, therefore people hit their straight and demolish your made set, etc? That would lead to fewer pots won, where you could potentially buy yourself a pot with a nice bet in NL on that same set.
This is coming from a relative noob (only got serious about this game a few months ago. part of the reason i am curious is that I seem to be a little better at limit because I can stay out of trouble more, and I know when I have pot odds, etc. But I much prefer the weapons available in NL. Need to work on "what I am trying to accomplish with a bet", though....
Thanks for the insight!!
