    Default Understanding statistics

Hi all, I am new to the forum so please forgive me if this is posted in the wrong section.

My post is regarding statistics. Recently I requested from pokerstars my poker statistics for the last 1000 cash hands that I have played. These hands are split pretty evenly between .10/.25nl and .25/.50nl. The statistics I received form pokerstars were as follows.

    Hold'em (Real Money):

906 hands played and saw flop:
    - 33 times out of 128 while in small blind (26%)
    - 53 times out of 125 while in big blind (42%)
    - 77 times out of 653 in other positions (12%)
    - a total of 163 times out of 906 (18%)

Pots won at showdown - 20 out of 30 (67%)
Pots won without showdown - 111

I am not sure the of the exact profit/loss data of these statistics although I am pretty sure I have made a decent ROI from these hands.

Basically my question is are these statistics of any use.

    Are these statistics good/average/poor etc?

Can I use these statistics to help improve areas of my game?

Are there any parts of these statistics that require special
    attention/improvements?

Can I determine VP$IP from these stats?

    Thanks

request all your hand histories from poker stars and then download the 2 month free trial of pokertracker , then you have all the statistics you'll need. Then make sure that you have your Stars software set to save your history to hard disc.

First of all, you should be looking at at LEAST 10k hands before you start trying to anaylyze anything.

Anyways, one thing I noticed is you're completing your SB too much- which tends to be a pretty big leak after you've played a lot of hands. Your saw flop percentage should definetly not be double in the small blind than all other positions, considering it's the worst postition post flop.

I would actually say that your saw flop overall percentage is a bit low, as VP$IP is going to be a bit lower (and no, you can't figure it out based on that information because you don't know how many times you checked from the BB rather than calling or betting it) and VPIP for good players in cash games normally tends to be 16-25% IMO.

But than again, this is a very small sample size, so I can't really say anything.

Not to mention my BR is $58 dollars and I'm playing 2NL.

I'm a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it.

Cheers for the feedback guys. I play poker on my MAC OS though so unfortunately poker tracker is not an option for me.

I don't think I have played 10K hands on pokerstars cash tables so maybe I will try and analyse my stats when I get that far.

I think I do raise a lot from the SB rather than just completing. I do this when the table folds round and when I feel there are weak limpers in the pot. Maybe this explains my high play rate from the SB position... thoughts?

I am not at all surprised however that my saw flop percentage is low, since I try and pick up a lot of pots pre-flop and I rarely play anything other then premium hands when out of position pre-flop.

Any other thoughts you may have on the stats would be appreciated.

    Thanks

I really agree, you have not played enough hands to get much out of that. There are sessions where i get great cards and my vpip is a lot higher than other times. I have been playing for over a year but just last month bit the bullet and bought Holdem Manager (with Omaha). You can buy the low stakes version and it's not that expensive. It is great, not just to see your own stats but to see who the fishies are at the table. I can't calculate the number of times i have won money because of this little program... and i have only played 5k hands on it so far.

It is an investment but it is well worth it...

Hi thanks for the tip on poker copilot. I have got it d/loaded now and it seems like quite a good/useful thing to have. Only prob is I am having difficulties with the in game HUD. It just says on my PS table "No HUD data available yet" I have played a few hands like this but it just stays the same. Pretty strange, any ideas on how to solve this?

Hmmm I have discovered that the HUD is working on my FT poker but not on PS. I don't think Copilot is picking up my PS for some reason, annoying since i mainly play on PS. Can the system only pick up 1 site not both or is it just my settings that are wrong maybe? Think ill send poker Copilot an email try and find out were im going wrong.

    cheers again

Funny, it's picking up stars only for me and FT isn't working.

Problem solved guys. Now to figure out how to use these stats to my advantage. Any1 able to recommend which of the many stats available are the most useful to have up on screen in game and how best to use the stats given?

What I did to fix the problem was:

    1. go to the preferences screen in poker copilot and click on the button marked 'head up display'

    2. Click the + add file button.

    3. open the file where your hand histories are stored and add them to the folder.

Since opening poker co-pilot I found these stats and they are from a sample of 50K plus hands on FT Poker.

    51,156 hands played
    $1,375 Total Profit
    23% VP$IP
    14% PFR
    2.97 agg

All of these hands I played without the help of poker copilot. Just wondering how now I can use poker copilot to help me improve my game I can also post a host of other stats from the copilot if anyone thinks they might be useful when it comes to analysing my stats.

    cheers

don't open limp, or don't cold-call as much

that's all that can be gleaned from those
