Default Is this type of home game a crapshoot?

Hello everyone! I've been lurking the forums for a few weeks now reading up as much as possible because, like many of the people here, I absolutely love learning as much about this game as possible.

I just wanted to toss out there some of the frustration I have with a home game I play in twice a week:
About 5 or 6 players on average, $20 buy-in freezeout NLHE.
Usually start with about 120 to 150 in chips and the blinds start at 1/2 and double every 20 minutes.
There are usually one or two pretty tight players who are capable of making laydowns, one or two guys with loose starting requirements that habitually play their cards and are oblivious to nothing else, one guy who has decent starting hand requirements and knows how to use position to make timely pre-flop and post-flop bets, and one guy who will limp into EVERY pot with anything he's dealt and will religiously call down to the river to make his flush or straight (and winds up calling off all his chips to the guy who is the eventual winner). All in all, it is very hard to make semi-bluffs or have continuation bets make any sort of impression on any of the players.

I play pretty tight (think Dan Harrington starting requirements) and let position dictate at times what and when I should play. I love to make continuation bets at what appear to be safe flops after I take the lead pre-flop, and I have no problem letting go of hands that I can imagine I'm beat (I can make timely reads that go completely unnoticed by anyone else at the table). But my problem is that most of these players will just habitually call me down and if I've understood a lot of what's on these forums, I should just play as passive as them and let them take the lead betting and that to beat them, I need to just play ABC poker and show down the best hand. The problem is, as patient as I am, I can't just wait for premium hands or good position or else the blinds eat me up. Like I said, I've come to realize it doesn't pay to try and make moves on these guys, and as much as I try to isolate myself with the one maniac at the table so I get his chips before anyone else, I can't seem to win a showdown with him.

I know this was really long-winded so let me just toss a question or two out there for all the helpful folks here:
    1. From what I described, could this game essentially be a crapshoot for a player like me (tighter, more poker-attuned), especially when everyone starts with such a low effective M (120 chips / 3 chips from the small and big blind * 5/10 players) which is right on the edge of the green zone?
    2. Besides just continually showing down good hands which I obviously can't wait around for, is there a better way to beat what seems to me like a really passive game?

I could get into how frustrated it makes me to play in this game, but I continually show up trying to play my "A" game and win with good-decision making and not rely on blind luck.

Thanks everyone in advace for letting me get on my soapbox. I'm looking forward to learning much and hopefully being able to add my two cents in the future!

As been said in this site many times one of the skills required from a good poker player is to adept to the enviroment he is playing in.

According to your description you have:
2 tight players (It seems like a passive)
    1 loose passive
    1 calling station
    1 tight semi agressive player.

It seems like the type of play that best suits this scenario is start playing tight - super agressive. You begin in a short hand table so you can loosen up the starting requirements a bit, look for post on short handed games.

Once the calling station is eliminated your life should become much easier, you have three tight players and one who is loose preflop but 'play only his cards' meaning lacks post flop skills.

I would play very agressively and pretty loose (maniac style), you should be able to pick up a lot of the blinds and with correct post flop play hopefully a large chunk of the loose passive player.

If the other players are getting tired of your bullying the table around they will have to loosen up a bit, and then you can revert to playing more 'tight' displined poker.

I guess what I am trying to say is that you should be able to change gears and modes of play as the tournament progress, and as the table reacts to your moves.

All and All its seems like a very beatable game, good luck
