Default TpWk and weak overpair play

(My first thread.....This is a neat site, and I'm glad I stumbled across it)

I'm trying to plug some holes in my game, and these are two situations I'm having some trouble with.

    1. I hold some crappy hand in BB, such as K7o, and the flop comes down Kxx.

    2. I hold a mid pp such as TT-77 UTG or in blinds (which I limp, is this correct?) and the flop is all unders. (this situation is obviously a little bit better than the first, but not alot)

I'm not really sure what to do in these situations. Since I limped to the flop, there are probably quite a few players in the hand with me, and they easily could have flopped a hand better than my overpair or tpwk. On the other hand, should I give this up so easily, because I do have a decent hand, and I dont think check/folding my TP is the right play either...

My play as of late has been to bet out, but I'm not happy with this option, because unless I take the hand down right there, I have to tread very lightly on later streets, due to my not-so-great hand and crappy position. On the other hand, I hate to check my TP, because it just gives other people manuveribility to suck out for a better hand, or bet me out of the hand from LP with worse holdings.

I am pretty sure that I am even or negative EV for my current play in these situations.

    Any suggestions?

Edit: oh yeah, welcome to FTR... the friendly poker site

It really depends on the board texture, if there is an obvious draw out there then I will bet stronger thinking that my TPWK or overpair is probably good to take down a pot where he was calling me down.

In these positions, I bet 1/2 - 3/4 of the pot if it is checked to me and try to take it down... if I get re-raised strong, I will often let it go unless I have a read that the guy is making a play with a mid pair. If I get called down without an A hitting, I'll toss out another bet and see what develops.

Watch your position here... if you lose your aggression on the turn out of position, you are giving up the pot most of the time.

No fear, go deep or go home!

big welcome to you from FTR

those kind of hands i'm trying to avoid showdown. Betting a little stronger is often the way to go, but you have to be careful not to get too envolved incase you are beaten... but it also will depend alot on the preflop play.. a hand where you limp is very different to where you raised or called a raise.

In NL, you don't want all your money in on a spot where you're maybe a 54% favorite to win...

Play small pots with hands like TT-77, don't get too crazy.
take your ego out of the equation and judge the situation dispassionately

I like to check my TPWK in early position to see who bets. If it's a tight player I will probably fold because the pot usually isn't that big anyway. If it's a small bet I might call to see what they do on the turn. If the button is the bettor, I will sometimes raise and take down the pot there. He might have a similar holding to mine, or even better, and will lay it down. A lot of times it's a position bet and he has nothing.

With overpairs I almost always make a pot sized bet. Unless there's an aggro player in late position, I might check raise him. If it's a raised pot, I will check raise the preflop raiser to see if he has a better overpair.
