Time to learn to eight table.

I'm coming up on almost a year now playing online, I've played all stakes of ring NL from $10NL to $1000NL. So far, 2006 has me up around $4k playing $200NL off and on. I recently withdrew bigtime to pay off some debt and went back to $100NL and some SitnGos for fun. Well, today sucked. My PC pretty much decided its time to go. So, time to build a new one.

..And I went a little overboard. I withdrew my roll because I didn't have enough cash on the side to build one with. I'm a Systems Administrator, and I need a PC at home to make money unless I wanna be tied to my laptop, and ef that idea. So, I built a hefty little dual core, 2gig of ram box. When I was building it though I was thinking to myself "Its finally time to get a dual output video card and start doing 8 tables". So, I ordered a dual dvi output card to power my two 1600x1200 20.1" Dell LCDs. Hello 8 tabling!

Now, obviously the downfall of this is I blew my entire online roll. I'm going to head to the local B&M this weekend with my live roll and try to make a little extra scratch to deposit into my online, but realistically, I can't imagine redepositing more than $300 when I get everything together the end of next week. But, I think that is good. I want to minimize my risks while learning to 8 table VS 4 tabling.

So, Sucking up the ego, $10NL it is again for me. Talk about taking a few steps back it feels like. I won a $1500 pot the other night and now I'm playing for if I'm lucky a $30 pot?! Whoa! Haha, its really just for practice and to make sure I can do it. I look at in BBs anyways anyways and the relativity of the stakes to the BR.

I guess after this little essay all I have to ask is really, what do you suggest for someone coming from a successful year of 4 tabling to 8 tabling? I think the first thing would probably be no more running AIM in the background or talking on the phone while playing. No more trying to get Miffed to nutup to a $1k NL HU game on IRC as well. ;P <3 u miffy

Any suggestions and tips would be greatly appreciated. Some bankroll input would be nice as well, I can't imagine 30 buyins isn't more than enough when I play with 20 on average for 4 tabling but if you think its not enough, please give me reason to why.

I play 6, sometimes 7 if there is are really good games going. You are definately on track with the AIM and phone. I can't even believe someone would be able to do that on 4 tables and still maximize the edges.

As far as adding more tables, don't add them just because your hardware can handle it. Really take the time to learn to play that many profitably. And by that I mean, think about every decision even when not in a hand. Don't let it become mechanical! Ever.

When you really apply yourself, you will be very suprised that your reads don't suffer too much. Your brain is really powerful when you focus.

The biggest problem I have is that I get so involved I don't realize I need to use the washroom. My blatter usually hurts after a session as does my head. Taking scheduled breaks is a must.

Youve already 4-tabled, so you probably know all this. Just don't jump to far to fast.

As for the bankroll, it stays the same. You get the same swings (provided your play doesn't change) you just get those swings in a shorter period of time.

I don't adjust bankroll.

I can't remember any differences from four-tabling to nine-tabling when I made the jump. I did it because I could finally fit that many tables.

You get about the same reads you get four-tabling. You know who the total freakin' morons are, and I use HUD for the rest.

Anyway, the biggest difference I notice is that now when I four-tabling, it's SLOOOOOOOOW.

Well, I had to withdraw my entire roll due to the PC issue, so rather than waiting and redopositing when I have 2k again I'm going to just deposit what I need to play the $10NL game, then deposit whatever I need to play the $25NL etc and up until I'm back at the $100NL level.

dont limit yourself to your bankroll. If you can beat 5/10 NL thats where you should be.

I unfortunately am completely tapped on my online bankroll right now. I've put clearing my debt ahead of my poker life right now temporarily, but I am trying to figure out a roadplan to get myself back on track to getting back to the $400 or $600 level once more. I honestly can't forsee myself building a $30k roll to play $1000NL consistantly.

I can beat it, but we all know how easily one bad beat can cripple an improperly built bankroll. I may put $100 into one place and just keep double up hunting, haha. I'm willing to take a $100 risk on that move.

If I was remotely good enough to play in that game, you can be damn sure that's exactly where I'd be (when BRed).

Oh, let me correct myself. I meant anytime soon. Unless I go on one hell of a burner or hit some huge tournament, I won't have the BR to back that up anytime soon. But I'm no means afraid of having a 30k BR to play in that game.

So what exactly do you forsee, then? What's your timeframe to get into that game?

To get to the $1000NL level? I really don't know. My current goal is to be back at $200NL within a couple months. $400NL by fall at latest. Once I'm there, I plan to stay a while. I'd like to log 50k hands at $400NL before I gauge really playing higher levels on a nightly basis multitabling. Ideally, before the end of 06 I'd like to be at $600NL.

I 8-table. Minimize distractions in the background.

8 tables? I'd hate to see what you guys are like in a casino!

I tried 5-tabling 6Max 100NL yesterday. Around 400-420 hands/hr. The response time at Prima (only 10 sec) is a bit of a limit on the number of hands you can play though. I think the maximum at a site with 20-30sec is around 800/hr (if you're a multitasking machine ).

what B&M do you play at? im just wondering cause i live in seattle too

I only play at Tulalip. Rarely, I'll swing by Silver Dollar in MillCreek\Bothell for their weekend tournaments, just because I know the locals.

Very chatty. I also make sure I get a seat right infront of the LCD's.
