Tight the way to be?Loose-agreesive whe blinds are low to ti

I was just curious it seems as if i can build a pretty decent amount of chips playing a little looser, say j/7 suited k/9 off suit etc in the early beginners of tournies when they blinds are relatively low 5-40ish. This way giving you a better advantage to the tighter players. Of course im not saying to call raises with a 5/7 suited card but just to limp in. Or sometimes make the raises yourself late position to throw off someone, then be aggressive on flop of course knowing when to fold.Then once you got a lot of chips, you can sort of protect/play tigher IE 2 face cards, a-rag suited, pocket pairs, some suited connectors and what not...Possible make raises to confused other opponents etc.


What do ya guys think of this, because sometimes it seems when i play tight/book style, ie limping with k/10 , raising with a/k os, raising with j/10 s, limping with q/10, raising with a/a k/k q/q, limping wih a/little suited/pp's and what not. Sometimes i will do great building a decent size amount of chips while other times im lucky to break even or even last before u know it the blinds are so big your going all in with k/j because ur shortstacked Or someone has 40,000 chips to ur 4k in chips...



Today i tried the stragety and i build up to 10k chips pretty fast, the only thing i didnt do was i started playing too many hands(big no no) now if i woulda slowed it down and went to tight/aggressive i think i woudl of done quite well.

two thoughts:

1.) get in cheap on low blinds in the tourney to hit hands (i don't necessarily agree - gets you into hands where you go deep and lose in situations you never should have been in)

2.) make it difficult for people to get your chips, play tight, develop a good table image on raising that you can loosen up on when the pots get bigger


I'm a proponent of #2.....

I agree with ya but sometimes u just dont get the flops to your cards etc. I know what your saying you have a 4/7 suited a/5/6 comes off , either matching your suit or not, plus an open ended. You play it hard get called, get unlucky your gone...Thats why i think its better to check the flop to ur opp here in that situation but if the cards dont come off your still gone.
But whats 10 chips for a pot of say 200-300.

THat strategy is fine and dandy but you have to understand there are a lot of limitations when you do that. When you are not getting cards the kickers will put you in odd situations. Making loosing money easy if you don't know when to fold your top pair. Or when someone flops a 2 pair or trips since you limped in.

Yeah i was definately thinking that, but i mean it seems as if anyone plays super tight in tournies and the ones that win get a little lucky, of course skill. I wouldn't really say put a lot of money into a pot when you have j/3 and j/7/rag comes off probably a 1/2 pot(if you want) id rather just check and see the turn card go from there. But id play the hands more for flush draws/str8s/and 2 pair.. I dunno just something different to try when messign around in freerolls then put it to the test in real money...

This is not tight book style. this is loose. k/10, q/10, Ax is trash. This is how you get broke. j/10 is a limping hand that you need to be able to get away from even when you flop top pair.

Being shrtstacked is when you have less than 10xBB NOT when another player has a bigger stack than you. Don't let other players stacks affect your play.

This is crazy. Sometimes crazy works, sometimes it doesn't. Just don't expect your $5SNG strategy to carry over to a $100 MTT.

one other thing to consider is that, whilst u may win 3, 4 or more small hands from what are perceived as tight players early on, it only takes them to win one hand when the blinds reach a higher level and u have lost the early "advantage".

well... Thats actually exactly what you have to do! And yes, you are "shortstacked" earlier if everyone @ the tabel got 1000x your stack because you wont have any betting power... Losing to you wont hurt them so you cant win without a hand. BUT just because your smallstacked you dont have to be in desperado mode!
