Tight Play at$50 NL

So I finally built up my bankroll to $1000 and I graduated to the 2 tabling NL $50. It seems like a whole game altogether. At NL $25 I would just sit back, camp out and break people with sets. Now it seems like the other players are just as tight. Everytime I raise I get no action. I currently raise it up to $2 preflop. Is that too much? What do I have to do to get some action at these tables? Is it a waste of time to play with these rocks? Do I need to loosen my game up?

I assume this is referring to full ring. If it is, try 6max. A lot more looser players there for some reason. I play on stars and find that a lot of full ring players are rocks.

What site do you play on? I play NL 50 and NL 100 at Party Poker, and while the NL 50 game is surpisingly a bit tighter it is a quite easy beatable game. I dont know about other sites, but at NL 50 at Party the players seem to have TREMENDOUS respect for an early raise. On many other sites I just raise in as usual but at Party it can sometimes be a good idea to limp re-raise your strongest holdings from early position. Yes, this sort of gives ur hand away but at least you extract some value from it. 2$-raise is sort of standard at NL50 and I wouldn't consider going below that.

Granted people that fold too much aren't as easy to exploit as those who like to call too much but (in my humble opinion) you need to be able to learn to beat all kinds of different players, tables, situations, etc. When you find the player that loves to fold, just be careful when they put large amounts of money in the pot, whether it be passively or agressively.

it is incredibly hard to exploit someone who loves to fold PRE FLOP.

post flop it's a different story. I don't mind dumping AQo to an EP raise. in fact i will certainly do it and won't look twice at KQ, AJ, KJ. So you can make them fold AQ by raising more than usual, but you're not gaining very much. If they're tight post flop then you can get them to call your raises and fold to your cont bets *then* you have someone who can be exploited. But if they play real tight and don't give up easily once they see a flop then find another table.

The turning point for my NL career was NL50 as well;players there are solid ones who have graduated NL25 and are looking to hit NL100.Unfortunatly like 1/2 this is a level in NL where you are def tried as a player in both spirit,mind,and card knowledge.

if it makes you feel better I think NL 50 is almost harder than NL 100 on Party.. im not sure why. Im at NL 400 right now and its not that much harder than NL 50, so you've already come a long ways!

Right now Party is a total rockfest - probably to do with people, me included, clearing a lot of recent bonuses that have been offered. Avg pot sizes are around $4-8 at 50NL. Even before this, Party was tighter than other sites such as Pacific, where tables that average $18-25 pots at 50NL are not difficult to find. You can't multitable at Pacific which explains why it's so loose.

This is encouraging. I'm playing 5oNL and I'm killing it pretty regularly, by abusing position and punishing drawers. Thinking about stepping up.

I played NL $100 at a B&M last weekend, and it was the loosest table I ever played at. I would rather play there than at the rock party.

For some reason B&M are extreamly loose.

I was playing 3/6 at a b & m last weekend and despite running into a straight flush I was able to come up 80 dollars. That was the smallest limit available and I think it was whoever thought it would be cool to test their TV knowledge of texas holdem. It was a joke, I got drawn out by a guy with an fivenine off flush and he didnt even hit a pair. I would recommend that to anyone.

By level, online typically plays much tougher than B&M. I know this applies in limit while in NL, I can speak to $200 on both. $200 online is much tougher than live.

I know that 50 NL 6-max is not that hard, but at higher stakes 6-max becomes a lot harder than the equivalent stakes of 10-max. For instance, I cant really beat the 400 NL 6-max game on Party (and I just recently started pulling an edge in the 200 NL 6-max game there), but I absolutely stomp the 400 NL 10-max game on Party. I dunno why this is, but with 6-max on Party, the difference in skill level is very pronounced as you increase the stakes.

One thing you will have to learn how to do if you want to beat 200 NL 6-max or higher is start making moves: either semi-bluffing or bluffing. You have to take this attitude of "i'm gonna steal every pot I can if given the opportunity"
