    Default thin value?

thin value is a concept i have struggled to fully comprehend for some reason.

i understand it as betting the river when you are about 50% sure you may be best, yet feel you may be able to bump off a weak hand that is better?

is this a decent example? if not, can anyone supply one with a little explanation?

    PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.25 BB (9 handed) Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

    CO ($39.75)
    Button ($12.40)
    Hero ($24.30)
    BB ($26)
    UTG ($21.05)
    UTG+1 ($25.55)
    MP1 ($27.90)
    MP2 ($26.75)
    MP3 ($15)

Preflop: Hero is SB with A, 5.
4 folds, MP3 calls $0.25, 2 folds, Hero completes, BB checks.

    Flop: ($0.75) 4, Q, 9 (3 players)
Hero checks, BB checks, MP3 bets $0.25, Hero calls $0.25, BB folds.

    Turn: ($1.25) A (2 players)
Hero checks, MP3 bets $0.25, Hero calls $0.25.

    River: ($1.75) 4 (2 players)
    Hero bets $0.5, MP3 calls $0.50.

    Final Pot: $2.75

since i feel i MUST say this...please disregard all other aspects of the hand. it is only the river bet i am concerned with. i know calling the minbet was marginal at best, and checking the turn was rather dumb.

I think this is more in line with thin betting.

Hero is dealt KQd on the button, UTG limps and everyone else folds. You raise 4xbb and UTG calls.

    Flop (Ah Kh 2s)
    Villian checks
    Hero bets 6xbb
    Villian calls

    Turn - (Ah Kh 2s 3c)
    Villian checks
    Hero checks

    River - (Ah Kh 2s 3c 4h)
    Villian checks
    Hero bets 12xbb
    Villian calls and shows KJo

maybe this is the nit in me, but i dont think that is "thin," either. i think that is more "stupid value."

there is an A up. any 5 beats you. and the flush completed. there are strong hands that could be planning c/r's. i check behind there every time. but, maybe i'm stupid.

Your hand is more floating, thin value betting means betting on a scary board.

I don't like it Chopper. You did not raise pf, you have no idea wtf these guys have. You have no position and your hand isn't great and has very little chance to improve. Just k/f flop in this situation.

On river, if you decide to bet for value, bet minimum 1/2 pot. But I still don't like getting involved in accidentally limped pots
