Default There Really is No Secret

Hard work and discipline are what you need to succeed. This applies to everything. There really is no secret—or shortcut—that will get you around this. Get to it. Now.
I sent this out to my team at the office and figured I'd post it here as well. We all buy the same books and read the same articles. Most of us started out the same way too - grinding out a bankroll from a $50 deposit. You post hands and continue on but still wonder why it's taking so long to grind out a respectable roll to move on to mid-stakes.

So what separates the BC average joe from an FTR balla? Read the quote again. There is no secret, so stop looking for it. Stop moving up so players "respect your raises". Stop doing the same stupid things over and over again. Stop playing outside of your bankroll. Don't ever play tired or on tilt because you're training yourself to play under bad conditions. Stop telling yourself that one day it will all come together. Poker, especially NLHE, is a never-ending learning process. But you CAN succeed. And you WILL succeed IF you just APPLY YOURSELF. That is all.

Absolutely correct. I have been playing now for nearly 18 months and had realized about 3-4 months ago this very fact, I don't have the time now to put in the work, so obviously I'm not going anywhere until I do. Break even makes it a nice hobby, but you won't rule poker until you do the work... hopefully in another month the time to do the work will become available.

Point well put and well taken Nutty.

you need to get lucky at some point in order to be successfull. if you work hard and systematically, the probability of getting lucky increases.

Everyone gets it in their own way. To me poker boils down to one word "value". Apply that to pretty much every situation and poker makes sence.
Just dipping my toes back in.

    Turns out patience takes skill.
The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which unskilled individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly rating their ability much higher than average. This bias is attributed to a metacognitive inability of the unskilled to recognize their mistakes

to beat micro-stakes u just gotta be discplined. fold when the flush completes and the donk shoves, realise when TPTK is the nuts and when it really ain't, value bet your made hands, then vlaue bet them some more...etc etc etc

just learn to stop mugging yourself. took me forever, but when it came.........

now i mainly find myself (only a $50nl playa) getting frustraed at bad beats and not getting enough value rather than feeling like a dik for playing under rolled and getting pwned.
