    Default Sweat Session

Someone I met at a casino down here yesterday, while on one of the tables was mentioning that he plays avidly online also. He was obviously better than me and was kind enough to give some advice. He mentioned that online you can set up a "sweat session" with someone who could watch your game online for awhile and evaluate it. I told him about FTR and he said this would be a perfect place to ask to set it up. Is there anyone here that does it? Does it cost anything? What about recording the desktop while playing, is that possible? That way there would be a record of the session and myself or someone better could review and find leaks. Anyone know of anyone doing this? Thanks ahead of time guys for any input.

You could download camtasia and record yourself playing. Then you could maybe talk one of the better players around here into looking at it and evaluating your play. Although, if you aren't friends with a better player it will probably be hard to get them to spend 1hr or so looking at your play then explaining to you your leaks, as they could be playing during that time making some money.

Thanks for the reply. Any idea of names who might be willing to take a look at a video. I'm like super new, virgin fresh to FTR. Thanks again!

i'll check it out, for what that's worth, if it's not longer than 30mins. Use camtasia (or other capture SW) and upload somewhere we can access.
do u play FR or 6max? 1table or multi?
If it's 1FR table it may not be worth it, better to just post hand histories here of the pots you play, cause 80% of the time in the vid will just be folds.

I think you could get a few people to look at it and give you advice if you posted a video. You would just want to be careful who you are taking the advice from. Also, you could join a site like grinderschool for low limit stuff and they have a couple people that do this right now. (meaning watch each others sessions or do sweat sessions, some free some for a fee).

Yeah if you are doing a video it's probably best to play like 4 tables if you are playing FR. At least 2, but that probably won't help much. Also get a mic and talk your way through each hand. That will keep you on track, as well as, let the person reviewing the hand known you thought process so that they can see why you are doing something and correct it if it's wrong.

Also with camtasia, when I did my video, there was a problem with the camera zooming in on each table at times. I don't know why it did that, but this is just a heads up so you can do a little vid and check it.

He's talking about sweating, not video recording. Download Teamviewer or Mikogo and you and whoever you choose can watch one's desktop. You can then chat on AIM, MSN, etc or use skype/vent to talk via a microphone. This all does not cost a thing.

If you don't have a friend to do it with then you'll have to pay for a coach who will do it for a certain fee. Sometimes you'll get lucky and befriend some higher stakes people who are willing to do so for free.

I knew abou the teamviewer, but wasn't sure of how legal it was to have someone else telling you how to play your hands in real time, so I didn't post it. Oh well.

Thanks for all the info guys. asdpikas, I'll take you up on that offer. I appreciate the help, that's very nice of you. I'm not looking for like a book of results after watching me play, I just want someone to glance over a couple hands and pots that I'm in and suggest if I am doing something grossly wrong. I'll do 2 tables of 6 Player so there is more action in the amount of time. Is that cool? I will also look into Teamviewer or Mikogo, sounds interesting to have that type interaction in real time. Anyone use this already? Thanks all!
  11. #11
you should post a link to the vid on here, more ppl will watch it, and we can all give our opinions on the hands, and feedbacks
I already posted one video on the LHE forum, and am actually right now rendering another one (also limit holdem), and got good advice on my game from the other guys. The more the merrier.
Also, i'm not a bad player, but there are really better NL players than me at FTR (i'm better at limit games), so maybe we can all learn together by getting a discussion going.

2tables 6max is good. In 30mins there should be enough hands to look at.
After that, i recommend posting lots of hand histories on the SH part of the forum. U'll get really good advice from the ppl there.
    cheers

That should be fine if you are a 6m player. If you are a full ring player I suggest you do this playing FR games as they do play differently.

Yeah. I have used both Teamviewer as well as Mikogo (even used AIMPro which allows for screen sharing) and it' actually very very helpful. Making a video and having others review is just as helpful. Kind of all depends on who is helping you.

is a sweat session really more helpful than reading some literature for beginners? I could see it being tough if there weren't some key things already figured out...

I think it would help quite a bit, as I'm assuming the person doing the sweating would explain as the play went along. I mean alot of the literature tells concepts, but doesn't always put it into effect with reasonings etc. This would.
  29. #29
I think this video, with comments based on basic strategy concepts and links to some of the posts on FTR might make like a good post for many newbies to see basic concepts applied.

so monkey is then doing but not understanding?

I guess it depends a lot on how much info is passed during the sessions. And if people on this site are willing to do stuff like this and make it helpful on several levels of understanding and play, why not make some sort of "Newb Sweater of the Week" program? Randomly (or not randomly) pick a newb to be sweat by one of you mid to high stakes guys that have a lot of these concepts down pat.

If this is really a better way to learn some basic or even complicated skill sets then it would be really cool to see a switch of efforts by the skilled players from replying to threads in this forum, to sweating beginners. Even just one a week, or a month, but with some sort of regularity to keep newbs coming back and also attract more newbs.

Obviously as a micro stakes player I'm not a candidate to sweat people, so it's easy for me to volunteer others at this point, but I do think it would be a neat idea.

id rather just have a couple newbs sweat me. That way you can just ask questions while I'm playing and it'll prolly be more productive. I mean, if you see me 3 bet a 15/13 with QJs from the button vrs his CO raise, i think that'll be a little bit more eye opening than me telling you to raise instead of limp the button.

I would definitely be interested in an opportunity to do that. What software do I need to download? When could we setup this up? I'm pretty much online all the time cuz I work on the internet so time frame is not a problem for me. Would love to learn from you a500lbgorilla. Thanks!!!!

Can you explain this to me? I can understand 3betting sometimes but I think overall I'd rather call vs. this nitty of a player. Obv. depends on villain's postflop/3bet calling ranges. But I'd rather 3bet for value vs. nits unless I knew he was opening a little looser in LP.

In a vaccuum, the hand is iffy, but it's part of an overall strategy of being the aggressor every opportunity I have vrs the people I'll be playing the most pots with.
