Stupid online discussion
Help me settle something here, at least in my own mind. Two guys at my table see a flop of Qc 9c x (where x is a low card and not a club). One guy bets hard with QJo... the other guy raises all in with KJ of clubs. QJo makes the call, but the turn brings a club.
Afterward the QJ guy makes a typical snotty remark about getting sucked out on. I can't stop myself from piping up and saying that KJ was actually a favorite on the flop, so it's not really a suckout. This leads to an annoying, circular debate where he says he was "ahead" in the hand and had the "stronger" hand, and yes KJ had to suck out to win - even though he ALSO admits that it was probably a favorite vs. his queens on the flop.
My question then: does this make any kind of sense? To me, the "stronger" hand, the hand that is ahead, is the one with the best chance to win. That's it. Just because he had a made hand instead of a draw doesn't mean to me that he was ahead or had a stronger hand - at least not with two cards to come. Therefore I think the perjorative phrase "sucking out" can be laid to rest; it doesn't apply here.
Am I right or wrong?
