Default Split pot or no split pot that is the question

First of all i appologies if this has been posted before and answered, i have tried the search and cannot locate any keywords that may help answer this prediciment.

The situation, and keeping it short.

1 x player has K3 other player has K5. The community cards are 10s-10d-Q-K-2

All in all all players have a 2 pair, which totaly matches plus the remaining com cards and there low card.

    What hapens o the pot?

On playing a small game over beers, practising for a little poker club there was a discussion with regards to this question.

2 people belived its a split pot (me being one) because the best hands would be the two pairs with a Q, had by both players(the best hand possible out of the 7 cards). 2 other people argued that the players low card made the final decision and that the player with the 5 had the advantage and therefore the pot.

Our poker club start soon, we're all fairly new to the game, and as I and someone both belived we new the rules we ended up with this prediciment.

    Many thanks

Split pot. Every player makes his best 5 card combination and you use those hands to decide who wins or if its a split pot. If the two player' 5 card combinations match then its a split no matter what the cards are that they didnt use.

    Default Thanks

Thats brilliant, cheers for the quick response.

Can i just ask that anyone the just pops on past can they add a "I second the motion", just so i can get a out of 5 response on this being correct.

At the moment with my three mates this only swings it 3 to 2 for splitting tho pot.

    cheers

There was an argument like this at my last homegame, but the rules state best 5 card hand...not best 5 card hand + hole kicker.

In poker, a hand consists of 5 cards.

5 cards, not six cards. If it were the latter you might as well invent hands like a superflush or a fuller house. Actually, that could be quite fun.

    It is a split pot.
Its always best five card hand so if board is JKA T Q it is a split. At my homes games ppl thought if they had an ace in their hand they won the pot (in above situation) if other person had like 23 or sumthing stupid. I have no idea where hey got that from lol.
