    Default Slow play?

Another thing I wanna ask is how do you play someone who has played slow aganst you? (been stung a few times) and when is it applicable to slow play someone?

    That is a good question.

I got into an argument about this with a player today. I had QJ. Flop was 6 7 10. It went check check. Turn was A, I checked he bet 30(min bet). I called. River was K. I bet 150 with A high str8 he went all in I callled. He showed 8 9. I won he was pissed.

He flopped str8 slow played it I caught a bigger str8 and won. If he made a good bet on the flop or even on the turn I would fold.
He was questioning how I could call the bet on a draw. I think I made the right call the because the bet was so small.

you also had 2 overcards not including the ace and i wouldn't have bought he had an ace with a measley 30 bet (i take it this was a tourney).

A gut shot straight draw is around 10:1 i think.
Poker is all about the long long long long long long long term . . .

translation: "i way underbet/slow played my vulnerable, flopped straight, and you called me on it. now i'm out of the tourney."

when i make a bad call, i suck it up and tell them nice hand, and hope that i learned something.

    nice play by you.

I am pretty new here but my understanding is a flopped straight is a pretty vulnerable hand? If I am correct about it then he was way wrong to slow play it. As for the question about playing against someone slowplaying you, I would imagine this is one of those "feel" things. You get a nose for it and see if you have a history on that player. Now the following is a complete guess, but if you suspect someone of slowplaying you I think it might be worth it to put in a sizeable bet and see how he responds...someone else care to weigh in on this?

    things to think about:

    - have you seen this player previously slow play a hand (if you have, definitely make a note)

    - how does he respond to a check? a small bet? does he come over the top of your small bet?

    - what does he do if you check the river? if you bet the river, does he raise?

being slowplayed is still hard for me to spot - if i suspect it, i try to set up a situation where the other guy starts thinking "oh on, i'm not going to get any money out of this hand" and will hopefully react.

Well, the answer to this question is the same as the answer to every other poker question. It depends. Had it been me with the 8,9 and the flop came 6,7,10 I wouldn't be scared of other straights. I have the nuts (depending on the suits) Someone would have to catch runner-runner to beat my straight, and that's exactly what happened.

There are a lot of things that beat a straight, so in that way it is vulnerable. But it is possible to have the nuts with a straight. Watch out for a lot of one suit on the board, watch out for a board pair, those are what will hurt you.

If I saw that 6,7,10 flop with the 8,9 and it was rainbow, I would have slow played as well.

Both players made the right move and one pulled out on top.

I seem to always fall into the slow-played trap, I either get cocky with my 2nd place hand, or I fold only to find out that he wasn't. Once, 7 ppl saw KKQ on the flop, The minimum bet went around to me. I said that someone HAS to be slow-playing this. I folded, as it turned out, no one slow-played, everyone was just scared. 2 pair, Ks and Qs won it.
I don't know what they have to say
    It makes no difference anyway.
    Whatever it is...
    I'm against it.

you should slow play when u no u have a winning hand....like flush or straight....from the flop..............then u have to play accordingly....but u should check or raise (the bare min.).....just let them build up the pot and call.........after the river...then i would advise to put up a hefty bet
