Showdown -- who must show cards?

Say 3 people go into the showdown. Sometimes online, the cards for one of the losing players will be flashed on the screen at the showdown, and the others won't. Why is that? What factors decide if the cards get flashed. I realize you can look it up in the history anyway, but why some losing hands automatically show and some don't?

some people have muck losing cards checked, others don't. the people that show all losing cards every hand they're in should be added to your buddy list.
